Of all the hot spots in Miami, Hillstone is one of my favorite. Whether it be for date night, girls night, happy hour or just a random night out. On any given night you will encounter a nice crowd. I will warn you though that parking is a mission. I usually Uber there and back. Also, go with the state of mind that there will be a wait on certain nights. There's a velvet rope south beach style on Thursday,Friday and Saturday night. Getting a drink at the bar during prime time may be difficult. All that said it's worth the wait because the food and drinks are that good. 4 stars vs 5 because no water refills! If I'm ordering bottles of wine, water refills are a must.

I love this place. I like the atmosphere, and the vibe this place has. It has spectacular service, exceptional food, no wonder it's always on a wait! Though annoying that you sometimes can't make reservations when you do get in the food really is great. They have one of the best veggie burgers I have ever tasted! My family enjoys a variety of the menu and everyone I know enjoys it here! Yumm, this is a great place!! The dessert is really good too!!!

THANKS FOR THE EMBARRASSMENT HILLSTONE !!!!!!! We come to this restaurant all the time. Usually everything is good ... On my current visit ( I'm so insulted that I'm writing this review from the table.) Four of us were having a business dinner and were sitting at a four person table. The owner of one of the companies came by and sat down for a moment so we squeeze him. He was not intending to have dinner at all. In fact it was his wife's birthday and he was going elsewhere. We offered him a drink. THEY REFUSED TO SERVE HIM because it was a four person table. We explained that he wasn't staying and they still refused to serve him. REALLY!!!!! Two people came to advise us that he could not eat or drink anything. We were in shock. Our client ordered several drinks and he was told he could not order the drinks because he had an unfinished drink. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!! When I was forced to order my own drink which was the same as the one they refused to serve. Twice the waiter came to verify that it was for me. You would think employees of a distinguished" restaurant like Hillstone would have better things to do than harass customers after they made their ridiculous point. Sadly their arrogance comes from the fact that the restaurant is busy. Well keep it up and it my not be. I for one will never go back and will encourage all my friends not to.

So Sunday Funday happened here for me and my brunch buddy Rich. We arrived in the thick of brunch high traffic time... around 2pm. The place was hopping and there was a good people watching atmosphere, which is usually the case here. The friendly hostess told us it would be a 20 minute wait. So we walked over to the bar area and found a high top table and ordered a round of drinks. I had the Paloma which consists of a smooth Herradura tequila reposado with grapefruit juice and lime. This drink was perfect for me. I highly recommend it if you are a tequila drinker and you don't like very sweet drinks (as is the case with me) It was very tangy and refreshing. Rich had a mojito. He said it was good as well. We then ordered the tuna tartare as a starter. This tuna tartare was incredible. It had slices of avocado which complemented it very well. It was very fresh and the seasoning was just right. I usually order the spinach artichoke dip when I come to Hilstones, however, I am so glad we mixed things up and tried something healthier and different. I think this is my new favorite appy at Hillstone. They moved us over to a table sooner than they anticipated and we proceeded to order our meals. We shared the California burger (with more avocado!) and the catch of the day (snapper) which was grilled and came with a delicious side of spaghetti squash with a marinara sauce and parmesan cheese. The squash tasted like pasta. The burger was very thick and juicy with melted cheese and arugula. I have dined at this particular Hillstone many times and I will list out some of my favorites: The pan fried fish: They lightly batter it and pan fry it with butter and it is mouth watering. The house made veggie burger is unique and really good. The ahi tuna salad and the steak and noodle salad are incredible as well. For dessert, they make a tres leches that is the mother of all tres leches. Try it and you will too be a believer. We had a great time, great food and great service. Hillstone never disappoints. The service is excellent and the food is always tasty.

Came here for lunch.... Since it was July 3rd and many places were closed for 4th of July we were in luck and there was no wait to be seated. Perfect timing as Hillstone is ALWAYS packed. Ordered: - Home Smoked Salmon: This was delicious. Salmon can have a very strong fishy flavor, but the way this salmon was smoked avoided that strong fishy flavor. It came with mini toasts and a yummy horseradish based sauce. At $18, it was a bit expensive for an appetizer. 5 out of 5 as an appetizer. - Famous French Dip: This sandwich came with thinly sliced roasted prime rib on a house-made French roll and served au jus to dip on the side. This french dip was an EASY 5 out of 5, HIGHLY recommend it. The french roll had sort of a croissant like texture and flavor and it just SOAKED up the au jus, which was full of flavor and absolutely outstanding. At $21, even though it's a 5 out of 5 sandwich it's just a bit too much. Though both dishes were awesome, the 4 star is for overall value. The food during my lunch was very very good, I will definitely be back to try out more of their menu.

Prepare yourself for some fantastic steak. I love some good steak and let me tell you, Hillstone has some of the best in Miami. I used to always get the New York strip. It is so delicious; it is the epitome of a nice, big, juicy steak. However I recently tried the Hawaiian Rib Eye and I will never go back to the NY strip. The rib eye had soooo much flavor and was incredibly juicy. And for some reason, it doesn't feel heavy at all (I actually ate the whole thing by myself without feeling ridiculously full, that's a first). Plus, it's $20 less than the NY strip. :) The spinach dip is also to die for - easily the best spinach dip on the planet. And the brownie dessert, all I can say is mmmmmmm. Hillstone is nice - it has a very chic atmosphere. Service is phenomenal. I ask for my steak to be cooked well done and they always bring it well done on the first try (yay!). The reasons why I am taking a way a star are because 1). the prices are a little too ridiculous -- $15 for spinach dip with a couple of chips is a little absurd 2). the wait times/hosts are inconsistent -- I've been told the wait is 30 minutes but ended up waiting an hour, also saw quite a few parties who came in WAY after us but got seated before us (and they didn't have a reservation - how does that make sense?) Anyways, I highly recommend.

I love this place. But this location only. There's no mistake when coming here, the food is always, always delicious. The sushi bar here is better than most sushi places, even though they aren't a sushi restaurant but a American one. I have my to go dish, which is and always have been the ahi tuna salad. Delicious and extremely fulfilling. They have a wonderful Tres Leches Cake as well, if you're in the mood to indulge. The only problem is the wait, it is easily a 40min - 1 hour wait. But it's so worth it

My meal was absolutely delicious. I started out with a mimosa with fresh orange juice and the spinach artichoke dip. Both incredibly delicious and light. I ordered the tuna burger which was awesome. Crunchy on the outside but not cooked all the way through, it was a great twist on a burger. Lighter but incredibly filling. The only con was the service. It was incredibly slow. It took over 10 minutes to get a second drink. I'd recommend, but be prepared to wait for everything.

Few places in Miami have the unique, and highly sought-after, ability to serve you a perfect meal every time. Hillstone, in Coral Gables, has that ability. My family and I have been coming to this place regularly for over a decade, and their food, as well as their service, have been impeccable, perfect and consistent in every single visit. Formerly known as 'Houston's', Hillstone is a casual, American restaurant that has become a favorite and a classic among Miamians. The place has a great scene and is perennially busy with stylish, corporate types for lunch, good-looking singles for happy hour, and fancy Miami families on the weekends. Needless to say, no matter when you chose to go, there will always be a long wait, but trust me, it will be worth it. The right way to start your perfect meal at Hillstone is with a mojito. Theirs, like most of the menu, is simple and classic. Not too sweet, not too strong, with just the right kick, and always refreshing. Once you are all set with your drink, I highly recommend starting with their artichoke & spinach dip, or if you are dining at their Coral Gables location, the coconut shrimp sushi, which is one my favorite rolls in the city and always made fresh in their own sushi bar. Even though most people usually gravitate towards the steak, I beg you: please don't. Don't get me wrong. Their steak is phenomenal, and if you are in the mood, by all means, go for it. But there are a few other, often-ignored, gems in the menu that are even better and more unique. Case in point: the Thai Steak & Noodle Salad. Hmmm... just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Let me tell you, I find the word "salad" in the name to be very deceiving, as the main characters are the noodles and the filet mignon, served with peanuts, fresh mint, mango and avocados. This is hands down my favorite salad in the world, and no matter how much other restaurants try to imitate it, Hillstone's will always be the best. Another great choice are the burgers, which are simple but perfect and oh-so-juicy, served with skinny, crispy fries. My favorite one is the Hickory Burger, served with Canadian bacon, chopped cheddar cheese and hickory sauce. Finally, if you are dining at the location in Coral Gables, you absolutely must leave space for their signature Tres Leches. Being a chocoholic, I don't usually bother with desserts that don't have chocolate as a main ingredient, but this Tres Leches happens to be the exception to my rule. It is everything it's supposed to be: spongy, moist, not too sweet, and served with the most amazing whipped cream and caramel on top. It is so good, that I always end up having to ask for a spoon to clean up all the delicious juices and sweet sauces left on the plate. I simply refuse to let go of it!

The Hawaiian rib eye is incredible! We usually save this treat for special occasions and go all out when we do decide to go to the Hillstone. For appetizers I love the spinach and artichoke dip as well as the sushi options. For the main course we usually split the ahi-tuna salad and the hawaiian rib-eye. But, let's be honest, the real reason we go to the Hillstone is for the rib-eye, which is out of control!! The atmosphere is great for special occasions or for a nice date.

My 5 friends and I just got KICKED OUT upon entry, when the bar was not full, because they were "at capacity." Not sure why Hillstone's is trying trying to act like they're Liv, but NEVER coming again. What a waste of an Uber ride.

I've been coming here with my parents for 9 years now!!! Some of our favorite dishes are the following: The ribs, the Thai steak and noodle Salad ( the best I've ever had) the cheeseburger the smoked salmon appetizer, and the spinach dip. Desert: The Tres Leches!! We normally order two or three sometimes for the table because it's that delicious!!!!! The service is always top notch!!! The servers and managers are also amazing!!! In nine years we have NEVER had one bad experience!!! This place will always be one of our favorites in the Gables.

I hate to do this, since this is probably my last Yelp review of the year. But I came here for a celebratory New Year's Eve luncheon (you know, to celebrate the arrival of the upcoming new year) but instead left with a belly full of disappointment. I came to dine by myself, noticed the laughter of a snarky hostess, and thought to myself, "Seriously! Hillstone's service is lacking! Way lacking!". To satisfy my appetite, I tried their ribs and a loaded backed potato. They told me their ribs were famous, but if that is so, they are probably famous for paying $29 (excluding tax) for ribs that barely have meat on them. I honestly felt like I was biting into bone--that is a huge NO for the extravagant price tag. Also, the loaded baked potato was a bit dry, but honestly, that was my fault because I ordered my butter and sour cream on the side. Seriously, order those two toppings already on the potato. It is bound to be better! In regards to the ambience, the interior is very similar to all restaurants you would see in "Miracle Mile"--it has an industrial feel , dim lighting, and that five star quality feel. My waiter was also very nice and friendly--willing to answer my questions. Overall, if I am looking to splurge on a good meal, I probably won't be going to Hillstone's. The food honestly could have been better, my waiter was friendly, but I think I could grab a better meal elsewhere for such a high price. It came out to $36 (including 18% tax) for the ribs and potato. That is equivalent to a lot of the best meals at all other restaurants around Miracle Mile.

This place is ALWAYS packed for a reason. You could walk by on a Monday at 2pm and it will guarantee be loaded with people around the bar (it's 5 o clock somewhere) The wait is usually long, but oh is it worth the wait. I've had the pleasure of eating here a few times and it continues to just get better and better. It is a pricey meal, but you know that going into it. You've heard it before, but I recommend the spinach artichoke as an appetizer. Very yummy and rich with flavor. My favorite entree thus far is the steak and noodle salad. Wow, just wow. The steak is cooked to absolute perfection and matches well with the flavors of the salad and dressing. Crushed peanuts on top and an overload of cilantro. I'm not a huge cilantro fan, but I won't fault the dish because of my opinionated tastebuds. This entree is a must! The French dip au jus sandwich is also a big hit and perfectly put together. The flavors are unbelievable and the meat is perfectly sliced. My mouth waters just writing this review. Either entrees will be a win, but honestly I have yet to try anything at Hillstone that I didn't love.

Every time I come in town for business I eat at this restaurant. The only thing bad about it they limit you at 5 drinks. Yes they do keep track. Ha. That may be a good thing for some people. Used to be at Houston's but I think it's the same company.

I had a somewhat strange experience here since my friend had promised us a meal questionably on the house. What this means is that my friend's friend was the manager and had nebulously offered some kind of freebie that night. So we ate and ordered in suspense, wondering what exactly we should expect from these terms. Although the experience was overshadowed by our bewilderment, I would say my overall impression of Hillstone was quite good. The sushi came in a cute square and was both aesthetically appealing and flavorful. I ordered a tuna burger and was unable to finish it, but it was delicious. My friend's French dip was less tasty, as I sampled some of his. Service was good, but this may have been due to our circumstances. Our waitress definitely fielded some strange questions from one member of our party with poise and professionalism. We finished the meal with a fudge parfait for three. And for anyone holding their breath from the first paragraph, we received drinks, apps and dessert on the house. It seems impossible to get into Hillstone on a regular night, but I'd return if I was guaranteed the ease that I had received the first time around.

Big deception tonight at Hillstone! Something was wrong with service! Very slow to reaction and also it seemed that they were exhausted. Oops, 18% gratuity is obligatory

Phenomenal dining experience. The food, staff and Restuarant vibe was simply well executed and a pleasure. The tuna tar tar was off the hook (pun intended) it was so fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed the California burger and the French dip both must experiences to enjoy!

Love the food here!!!!! A reservation is needed because it's always packed here. The smoke salmon is fantastic!!!! And the drinks are very strong and tasty. I love the tuna burger. The tuna is medium to well-done, but It doesn't have "bloody" flavor like most uncooked tuna I've tried before. Everything is perfect. The service is wonderful. They come a lot when they should, not interrupt too much. I'm not always a lime pie lover. But their lime pie is between cheesecake and lime pie, which I like it. Recommended!!!!

Ok so I gave 4 stars, only because I tried to order a blue Long Island and I was told they didn't offer it. Which was honestly really strange to me because they do have a full bar and they can make almost any drink, they clearly have the means to make a blue Long Island but they just don't.....I mean this was my very first time here and I was looking forward to having my usual blue Long Island which just didn't happen and it did put a damper. However the food was so so so amazing. I can't even begin to describe how awesome it was. You just have to taste it for yourself. And I really believe this is value for your money. I have paid 80$ for steaks that aren't as good as the one I had here which is much less. It melts in your mouth. And everything from the simple mashed potatoes to the veggies I had were buttery and creamy and ugh just remembering it makes me want to go back and eat again lol. If they would have offered Long Island iced teas this place would be it. 5 stars no questions asked. I like the atmosphere, it's very friendly and relaxed. You don't feel like you're in a fancy shmancy place where you have to dress up, it's casual and you can just go in jeans (it's not like tgi Fridays cheap and gross) but it's super chill. I really like this place and I'll be back. I just have to go somewhere else for my drink. Lol.

For the first time ever, I felt a decline in service this weekend. The quality of servers has definitely gone down. This place was know for having the best trained, cultured and charismatic waiters/waitresses. It's a combination a little things that have let me down. Time to move on for me..

Hillstone is ALWAYS BUSY. So do yourself a favor and reserve in advance prior to your visit. Please thank me later. I come here only and for RIBS and ribs alone... plus coleslaw and shoestring fries! Ribs are incredible. I used to love TR, Flannies, but Hillstone/Houston's are far ahead of the game. The sauce is savory, sweet, and smoky. So. GOOD. Always a winner in my book! Save room for dessert because the key lime pie is delicious: not so sweet and more tart than most people may like. The generous slice will bring a happy smile to your face and happy ending to your meal. Enjoy!

This is one restaurant that you can order anything on the menu and you are guaranteed that it will be great and consistent to past times you have ordered it. I have probably ordered everything on the menu and have LOVED everything but a few of my favorites are: the spinach dip, smoked salmon appetizer, apricot chicken (best chicken ever), kale side salad, all of the sushi rolls, Hawaiian ribeye and if you order only one of my recommendations order the tres leches- it's amazing!

The food here is soo good!! Let's see ive had the chili with extra cheese and it's the best chili ive ever had. The spinach artichoke dip is super yummy, the burger is really good, the mahi burger is huge. I love the potato stick fries, the sushi is super fresh. The chicken caesar salad is really good too and so is the thai steak salad; a little spicy but so worth it. The lemonade is perfect and so fresh. So what i'm trying to say is, you can't go wrong with anything you order from here! now i'm craving that chili.. The ambiance is very nice, you can be casual or dressy. The service is on point. There is a bit of a wait mist times i've gone but not too bad, usually like 15 minutes. But super worth it! Enjoy! :)

This place is always packed. Make sure to make a reservation if not the wait is at least an hour. The service was exceptional. We had the spinach dip as an appetizer. It was just normal spinach dip. And I had the salmon as my meal. It was delicious, very flavorful and larger than I expected. Overall, wonderful experience.

Spinach dip was on point as usual. Decided to get the Pork chop Cajun style it was so good I want to go back as soon as I can. Kelly our server was fantastic too. I've been to Houston's and Hillstone's all over Florida but this experience in particular was absolutely phenomenal.

Just ate at hillstones and paid $70 for a burger, glass of wine, and asked for an entree sized chicken caesar. Boyfriend said the the burger was bland, and they served me a side salad portion w 2 oz of chicken for $21. Total disappointment, the waitress disregarded me when I said they made a mistake(I've eaten at other locations and always order the same thing). Unfortunately, I won't be back due to the service and the fact that I left hungry.

For so many years, Houston's/Hillstone's has been our choice for countless lunches, dinners, birthdays and more. The off-menu Beef Ribs* (available on certain days only) are perhaps one of their most spectacular dishes along with the recently added Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Try their off menu blackbird and their tostones! So delicious!!! Landmark Chardonnay is a great choice if you're looking to get a bottle. The Caesar and Thai salad are great for lunch. If you're feeling for sushi, try the Osaka-style pressed sushi! I wish the Tuna Tartar had a little more dimension since it currently is a bit bland, however the amount and quality of tuna is spectacular and the presentation is gorgeous every time; Coconut Thai Shrimp Roll is so nice too! Ps. Though it technically is a chain, it's not a "chain" ;)

Food is always great. Service is always exceptional. I've had most items on the menu and have never been disappointed. The salmon is always good perfectly. The chicken sandwich is incredible. The ahi tuna sandwich is unreal. The smoked salmon appetizer is amazing. The list is endless.

The place is expensive. Loud and crowded. The person at the door. Not the ladies who seat you is managing the crowd with no tact. I hate this place. It's more of a pick up place than a nice restaurant. Not good for families

We came in for drinks/early dinner on July 24th, we arrived at 5:15 and the place was already packed! Standing room only at the bar, we decided to check with the hostess to see if we could get our table now, we had a 6:30 reservation. They were able to accommodate us, so we started with drinks and apps. We ordered the spicy tuna roll and the Spinach Dip, both were fab! I had a Paloma to drink, it was just okay. I normally love any drink with tequila but this one was just too bitter. My husband had a couple of different beers. For our entrees, I had the veggie burger. It had good flavor but didn't stay together very well, also the patty is mostly rice so very heavy. He had the campfire ribs which were tender and has great flavor. No dessert as we were too full.

Great place for happy hour or just to have drinks and appetizers in general. I started off with my first glass on wine sitting at the very spacious bar until the hostess came to inform me that our table was ready. Our server, Barbie, was very attentive and friendly. The menu has a wide range of variety so there's always something for everyone's taste. I just had the tuna tartare and another glass of Pino Grigio, perfect combo. Wasn't my first time and will never be my last!

The service is unparalleled in both efficiency and appearance. My waitress Belle today looked like a backup singer for Robert Palmer. The food is very good and there's a reason why people wait for a table when a dozen restaurants near by sit empty. Had the yellowtail and kale salad. Yummy. I'll be back soon.

Great Restaurant, delicious spinach dip to start. The Coconut Shrimp Roll was awesome and so was the Ahi Burger. Loved their fries!! The plates are a bit on the expensive side but it's worth it for a special occasion. The ambiance is modern but not too modern and the service was great except for our waitress that seemed to take our plates away as soon as we had just taken out last bite (hate that!). Overall, I would come back!

Great food, drinks and the crowd is pretty interesting. Me and my buddy had Martinis, Tuna Tar Tar and then the Sole - all of which were stellar. Throw in the hot crowd ( beware of courgars) and you have a great venue. Ideal for dinner and happy hour - will be back my next round!!!

This is actually a message to the regulars and the people that enjoy the bar scene. The new general manager that arrived to hillstones last week has made it clear he is not going to cater to any patrons visiting the restaurant. His exact words and idea is that he wants to get rid of the bar scene and the Miami rift raft it attracts. I can still tell you that the food is good and the servers do a wonderful job attending to customers.

Went to this place over the weekend while I was visiting Miami from San Diego. The sushi (tried the Thai roll) was a really good appetizer. I ordered the prime rib which was ok- a little chewy. The taste was of the prime rib was ok. For dessert I tried the key lime pie. The crust was good but the pie part was mediocre. Our waitress was great and the staff overall was pleasant. Overall, I would not return if I am in the area again.

Though this Place is $$$$ it's always busy so looks like most everyone else likes it more than me lol Don't get me wrong it's not bad, just doesn't do it for me at the cost they want. I'll have to come back and give it another chance.

Always a stop on our way to airport after a South Beach getaway. All day menu available. Obviously no one works after 3 pm on. Friday in Coral Gables! Our most recent trip this week, we had a 30 min wait mid afternoon for a table! Bar packed as well as this is obviously a happening spot on Miracle Mile, Delicious sugar rimmed lemon drop martinis while waiting. We aways enjoy the prime rib here with a salt licked baked potato and salad to start. Not inexpensive but always superb service at a great spot with a happening vibe

I remember before the name change, I once saw quite a few Heat and Knick players having dinner here. The cool thing about Miami is that no one was bothering them. That may have been partially due to the food being so awesome. The food is so good that you aren't even distracted by celebrities! Everything is cooked to the perfect temperature and the service is excellent.

Thank you Hillstone for another great dinner experience! Customer Service: if I could give 10 stars I would! Great experience and the staff really know how to treat the customers. thank you! Food: AMAZING! I never thought that I would write a review about a salad, but what a salad!!!!. It was a simple chicken salad! But this people really know how to transform a simple salad into something truly amazing. I was very very happy! My husband had their roasted prime rib and his food was also amazing. Very tender, juicy and full of flavor. Wine: We ordered the "Montes Alpha" Cab from Chile. We were very happy with our selection. Good quality and beautiful taste. It went perfect with our dinner. I can't wait to be back and try the ribs and some of their sushi! TIP: be prepared to at least wait for 30-40 min. Bar area is good for appetizers and drinks while waiting.

Such a great restaurant!!! I went on a Saturday night the wait was ridiculous, waited about an hour and a Hal to finally sit down. They don't get the phone number or give you a pager they just sign your name on the paper and look for you outside, so make sure you stay close. We had the cheese breads which are to die for ! Brings 4 and they are amazing do not compare to any cheese bread your ever had. Also had the ribs, literally all off the bone, they came with cole slaw and fries. I had the Tai steak and noodle salad which is amazing. If you want to try something different with a lot of bold flavors make sure you have this salad. It's amazing, comes with mango, noodles, steak and the flavors are just so rich. MUST have ! Will be coming again

My fiancé likes this place more than I do and says he's going to take me back here to "re rate" it. He rates it a 4 and I rate it a 3. I guess because it's not amazing best food I've ever had in my life, but it's pretty good. The fact that they don't take reservations and are always ALWAYS with a 1+ hour wait 24/7, I'd say it's not worth waiting. I'll go again to re rate maybe when it's not a super long wait.

Came to this Resturant by accident. Had a 30 minute wait but it was SO worth it. If you're in the mood for a light meal, sit by the bar and have lots of appetizers, Osaka sushi roll, spinach dip, and tuna tartar are to die for!!! Angela is awesome waitress. We're definitely gonna be back many times.

This is my absolute FAVORITE restaurant. Hands down the best place ever. Their spinach dip is the best, their smoked salmon is even better. Their Thai steak and noodle salad is phenomenal. Just thinking about it makes me salivate. Their Hawaiian rib-eye is to die for, paired with their loaded baked potato it's pretty much heaven on earth. Their Tres Leches. Oh My God. That's the only way to explain it. They don't take reservations and there is almost always a wait. The wait is well worth it and the bar is great to hang out at. The service is almost always impeccable, staff is always friendly and helpful and once you sit down your food comes out rather quickly. Try this place, it's pricey but worth it! Fantastic special occasion place, I celebrated an anniversary here not too long ago.

Bill stone is one of the hottest spots in Miami, it is always full... Meaning that they are doing something good! The food is amazing ( I recommend the ribs) and so is the service. I recommend this place %100

Fantastic place to spend your Friday night! I'll start off saying that you must make a reservation. The wait can be extremely long otherwise. The service here it's quick and knowledgeable and the menu selections are wonderful. I suggest trying the sushi and the burgers here. They have the best spinach dip as appetizer and the chocolate sunday is to die for! I'm definitely coming back!

I've been to Houstons, now Hillstone for several years now. I do not know how they do it but every time it's just on point. From the drinks to the food -- and it doesn't matter what you order! Salads, steak, sushi, appetizers.. it's all delicious! Service is always fantastic as well.

Jonathan our waiter was very good! But saddened that dragon rolls were taken from the menu! Best rolls in town.. Don't know why it was taken away!

I hadn't been here in several years but the food and service remains great. This Hillstone in particular has a sushi station. I ordered the Dragon Roll and was really good, but in smaller pieces the way I like it. I hate those rolls that you cant barely put in your mouth. Ordered the babyback ribs with mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the steak, it was cooked to perfection nice and tender. For dessert we had the tres leches, OMG one of the best I've ever had and I live in Miami. You must try it. The mojitos were good as well, wish the glass was bigger with less ice but the it was well done. I totally recommend. This restaurant. Be prepared to wait because its always always full.

OK I put 4 stars although I was tempted to put only 3. The reason I want to put 3 stars is that we waited one hour for a table (at 8pm) when we were told 30 minutes. It was packed. However once seated the service was perfect and the food was delicious. The menu gathers all the classic american favorites (sandwiches, burgers, salads, steaks, salmon, ribs etc). I got the crab cakes, served with coleslaw but traded french fries for a caesar salad. The two crab cakes are not fried but pan seared. Better. Filled with lump crab meat, they are moist and light. My friend got the pork ribs. It was huge and perfect. The meat fell off the bone. I liked their coleslaw but I didn't like their shoe string fries. However this is just my taste. Prices are ok but tend to be on the expensive side. I will however be back because I like the food and the big portions :-)

My wife and I have lunch/dinner about about 3 times a week at Hillstone/Houstons Coral Gables. We are distraught with the new management at this restaurant. For the last 10 years we have enjoyed our time and food with a great ambiance thoruoughout the years. The food is always great and consistent. However, the new Genral Manager has changed the ambiance at this chic restaurant. We have always enjoyed having lunch/dinner, but now he(general manager) seems to be in a hurry to "turn over tables" to make a quick buck! . The arrogant attitude the new manager has is rude and childish regarding complaints due to lack of service. This establishment will no longer see our business due to this unproffessional manager at this restaurant.

Came at lunch time so no wait to eat, which was awesome since I hear it gets pretty crowded. Waiter WROTE down our order of waters and lemon, then came back with the waters but without the lemon. This confused me. Could've just been a brain fart, it happens to everyone. Aside from that the service was good, great service to me is someone who is engaging this waiter was into "silent service" which was fine, we were well taken care of. The wine and water glasses were always full and everything came out in a timely manner and as ordered. We ordered a bottle of Malbec which was ok! Next time I think I would go with a Pinot noir. The food: out of the world! Never thought sandwiches could be so delicious. At our table we had the famous French dip.. This had slimly sliced medium rare prime rib with au jus and horseradish, the ahi tuna burger, and the Thai steak and noodle salad(which was supposed to include avocado but I'm not sure it did). Although all dishes were perfectly executed and made our taste buds very happy, the famous French dip was my favorite. The bread is almost like a heavenly butter croissant! And the creamy horseradish sauce completed the dish! Tabbouleh was good not traditional. It was simple and fresh tasting marinated simply with lemon juice. To finish off we had the tres leches. When we first ordered it we kind of nonchalantly agreed to all share it we were stuffed and didn't care about the desert .. But when it came it was so delicious we quickly devoured it like a couple of vultures. Overall was a great experience and I would come again.

We still call it Houston and it is one of our favorite spots in the Gables. Service is top, food is consistently the same good taste. Pork ribs are better than any ribs from Memphis. The deserts are all good. They should expand their wine list though.

Hillstone is a major hot spot in Miami, the bar is always packed with business professionals. There's always a wait to be seated so I don't suggest to dine here if you are in a hurry or if you want a quiet ambiance. The food is always exceptional, I always order the tuna tartar and the spinach dip to start. My favorite dish is the Roasted prime rib with a side of creamed corn; its absolutely delicious! The lemon drop martini at Hillstone is my go-to drink and the mojitos are pretty great too. Everything here is delicious, one of my favorite restaurants!

OMG - Grilled artichoke is to die for! Either alone or with the fresh dipping sauce, it is quite simply the best I've ever had!! We ordered the Campari with fresh squeezed Orange Juice... Excellent!!! For lunch, the Hickory burger... So yummy... The Hickory sauce is just so good. I got fries which were perfect with the sauces!! My friend got the cole slaw which was just fantastic as well! (Cabbage, parsley, scallions, dressing... Simple and fresh!) Service was great as well... Never lacked for attention, never hovered over. Drinks always full, and black napkins provided! (White napkins have button hole!!) Five stars is not enough!

First of all horrible service by our waitress which I am not saying her name because she never gave it at her introduction to our table. I was eating in "HILLSTONE CORAL GABLES FLORIDA" between 2:15 p.m and 4:00 p.m on 4/6/15 with my mother, sister, and niece. I've been to HOUSTONS in Biscayne blvd and was very happy with the experience so I decided to come to the gables and enjoy this location with my family for the first time. Now I regret it. I had a reservation but we weren't seated for some reason. So I sat at the bar with my niece to wait for our table. The bartender (female blonde) asked me if I wanted a drink. I said "no im fine just waiting on my table" you ask, she did her job. You're right, but the way she said it was " you get something to drink or you leave my bar". 15 minutes later we were seated after a group of 6 were seated. They had no reservation, I listened! We sat at our table and were greeted by a no name waitress. We're trying to order and my mother isn't fluent English and the waitress avoided speaking Spanish for whatever reason. Which was upsetting because she later spoke spanish with us. I only had 2 glasses of water in a hour and a half of eating. We were neglected the whole time. Our dirty plates stayed on our table for countless minutes being passed by fellow waiters and waitresses and whenever the plates were picked up they weren't asked "may I, are you finished, can I get you something else, would you like more water, can I" it was just pick up and go. Very rude! No one smiles, everyone is in a rush. I asked a gentleman "where is the restroom" he said "follow me" and I had to wait for him to finish putting a sale in. Which took 15 seconds too long! Unacceptable! After leaving this place thirsty, food not good maybe because of our experience, I still left 18% tip. Don't know why! I understand it is not easy to get into this restaurant but management should do a better job! Water should never be empty! And people should greet and be polite. Take pride in your job people. I will never go back here neither my family. Biscayne all the way! Eugenio Buitrago J

The place to be seen in Coral Gables. A cornerstone of Miracle Mile, Hillstone formerly Houston's is Miracle Mile's busiest corner establishment. I have eaten here several times and find their food good. Burgers and salads are okay. Never had the sushi here so can't really comment on it. People go crazy over their tres leche dessert which is good ($9.00 a portion). The bar is what you really come here for. Monday to Friday you find your regulars who will share a cigar with you or join you with your Johnnie Walker. Open 'til 2am, the night crowd is the funnest. Never know who you'll run into. Coming for brunch on Saturday or Sunday? Then you better come early or you will be waiting for an hour for a table. Don't forget to tip the servers and bartenders, they are fabulous and go out of their way to make sure you are happy and satisfied with your experience.

What a wonderful culinary and tasteful experience for my taste buds, this place has amazing eats and great service. My boyfriend and I started with an appetizer, the Tuna Tartare, OMG! I think this plate was created by the chef version of the holy father himself, my taste buds were having a massive orgy and exploding with pure ecstasy, I have never tasted tuna in such a way! For our main course my boyfriend had the Scottish Salmon with lentil vinaigrette and seasonal green vegetables and I had the medium rare prime New York Strip with fries and watercress salad, both were amazing eats, everything tasted amazingly fresh and my steak was super tender. I accompanied this delicious dinner with a nice glass of Montes Alva Cabernet Sauvignon which went along perfectly with my delicious steak! This was truly an experience and I think the beginning of an awesome culinary journey.... Thank you for awakening the beast of delicious food finder in me :) I can not forget the other great part of this journey our server, Kristian! He was super attentive and professional, liked the fact that he was able to work that thin line between being professional and cracking a joke or two with my boyfriend and I, I made sure we took care of him when we left with a good tip ;) All around this place is a must for any local or tourist, I'm glad I went at least once. Yes, price was a bit steep for the food, but lest face it IT WAS AMAZING!!! So be prepared to drop some money here and be ready for a little noise since it's a bit loud, but besides that just go ready to eat some deliciously and carefully prepared meals ;)

For what you're paying, I don't think the food is worth it. The rosemary focaccia is extremely salty and with the little marinated olives that accompany the dish still make it nearly impossible to enjoy. I had ordered the Thai steak & noodle salad which was nearly drowned in ginger dressing. The steak was cooked near perfection and it was extremely easy to cut. The ambiance of the restaurant is overall warm but it can be a bit noisy. The wait for a booth was reasonable and the service was timely and professional. Although the location is nice, I don't agree with paying extra for that. The food was manageable but other than that, its too expensive for the mediocre quality.

The level of quality at Hillstone (it will always be Houston's to me) is fantastic, and even more important, it's consistent! If you're in the mood for a good steak, the filet is fantastic. Taking it semi-light, but still want to satisfy your inner carnivore? The Thai Steak Noodle salad is an incredible blend of flavors and textures, topped off with a serving of steak that makes it one of my favorite things on the menu, whether it's lunch or dinner. For a chain, it's not bad at all. Don't forget to start with the spinach dip.

Just had dinner with my family. It was my wife and 2 kids. To start off the host was very RUDE. The wait was about 45min which isn't to bad for a busy place like this. Once we sat down, we order our food, my wife's filet mignon came out brunt. When the manager came up to find out about what happen. It was the same rude host. Her name is Sofia. When we told her that my wife order the filet medium, she's like I highly doubt your wife ordered it that way. I was in shock for a manager to talk to a customer like that. I don't know how she became a manager. My wife was in shock. This will be the last time we will ever come here.

My experience was good, the food was delicious, the service was great (the niceness was a little too fake fake for my taste, in the sense that I got very cheesy smiles that almost looked creepy) the food came out in a timely fashion, entree right after we finished our appetizer, dessert right after we finished our entree, it was all very convenient. Had a little hiccup with the bill but the manager got to the bottom of the issue and fixed it.

No matter when I've paid Hillstone a visit, I've always found a packed bar full of singles mingling and a wait for a table. This is literally the case Monday through Sunday - a nod to the fact that the folks at Hillstone are doing something right! Portion control and calorie count might as well go out the window - everything here is served as delicious as it can be and I doubt they skimp on the cream or butter. I absolutely love the filet mignon. Because it's cooked with hickory wood, there's an almost bacon flavored crust/exterior. I asked the waitress if they used a bacon rub and she assured me they don't, it's likely a flavor profile brought on by the wood they use - genius! I also love the fact that I don't get a blank look when I order it medium rare plus. Served with sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes, this dish is a dream. Surprisingly, I enjoyed my steak here more than I have on some trips to Capital Grille. Another surprise, the spicy tuna roll is excellent! As far as service goes, Hillstone probably offers some of the best - always cordial, super attentive and never stuffy. There's a lot I love about Hillstone (even the Eames-inspired dining chairs).

My oldest son is home from college and his visit was coming to a close, so I thought what a great way to close it out if I had lunch with him and his namesake, my 85 year old father. (we all have the same name by the way) Three generations breaking bread together! 18, 54 and 85 years at that table, 157 years! Wow I just scared myself! So I pick the place formerly know as Houston's, Hillstone. I have stopped going there mostly because of the change of their French fries. They used to have the best fries ever but that changed when they went to their "new" fries. The new fries are these angel hair pasta, or for those who have been to the continent, Capelli d'angelo. Not that I've been to Italy. ......Well when you fry potatoes this thin what you end up with is a greasy bunch of crispy crap! Think of those potato stick that come in a can but greasier! So I ask the waitress for a medium filet mignon for myself and my Ãœber picky 85 year old father. My son got the Famous French Dip Au Jus with all of us getting a baked potato. I always try and let the management know that the "new" fries stink! How are they ever going to know your displeasure if you don't let them know, in a nice Mr. Rodger's kinda way? This time was no exception; I let her know (as I have quite a few times) that the "new fries" are terrible. She just blew me off. Well anyway to the "meat" of my review, we order two medium filet mignons for myself and my 85 year old father. You would think that when you go to a place famous for its meat: "Center - Cut Filet" beef tenderloin grilled over hardwood, served with a baked potato" for a measly $36.00 you would expect perfection. After all I have to work for my money, and those two pieces of meat cost me close to three hours worth of work. Well they were cooked Tartar! So much for medium! Please check out the pictures below! They had the grill so hot in an effort to turn tables that only the outside of the meat was cooked. Charred even! Of Course my 85 year old father did not want to send them back because according to him: "they'll spit on them" Gee thanks dad something else to worry about! Why are they still serving their fries this way is beyond me! So if you must go, then tip well! Miami Guy Here!

Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly and courteous staff. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive as well. We ordered the striped Sea Bass and the lumped crab cake both dishes were very good and the presentation was nice also. My dish, (crab cakes) was a little bland for my taste but I was able to bring out the flavor a bit by sprinkling some sea salt they had on the table. My dish also came with hand-cut fries and cole slaw which were very tasty. For the fries they offered a spicy mayonnaise sauce which was excellent. I like spicy foods but not so spicy that I can't enjoy it. The spicy mayonnaise had just enough kick in it to complement the meal. Well done! For dessert we ordered the Key lime pie. It was ok. I guess I'm spoiled from having enjoyed it in Key Largo recently. But then again, I'm really not a dessert person. Having said that, I definitely recommend the restaurant and will come again!!

I've been going to Hillstones since it was called Houstons and this place is amazing. From the food to the impeccable service. They're so kind to you and they've never messed up an order for me. This place is delicious. The food is so good I recommended the NY strip it's the best cut or if you're feeling a bit healthy the grilled salmon is great as well. I've never been to Hillstone and not like a meal, this place is a little pricy but very much worth it. Before you leave YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE CHOCOLATE SUNDAE then you're life will be complete.

Excellent food, drinks, service and atmosphere. Worth the money. Barbie is by far the best waitress I have ever had. The wait can be long but I never mind as I get to hang out by the bar and have a few drinks before dinner. The Hawaiian Ribeye is my go to dinner, never fails.

I've always liked coming to Hillstone (formerly named Houston's) for their great food. My favorite items are their sushi rolls (coconut shrimp roll is to die for), veggie burger (my favorite veg burger out there), tuna burger, and their fresh fish is great. The only downside is probably the normal wait times (usually upwards of an hour if you go during busy times). However, that is completely triumphed by Faith Miller, the manager at the restaurant. My fiance, who has a bad soy allergy was served something with soy even though they said that they had thoroughly researched all of the food items he was going to eat. Unfortunately, Faith came to our table soon after the arrival of our food to let him know that one of the items on his plate contained soy. She went above and beyond to try and correct this - much more than needed or expected. No other restaurant has ever done what she did. Everytime we go now, Faith is extremely thorough in researching every single ingredient on his plate to make sure this does not happen again. We couldn't be happier with the way she serviced us that afternoon. With that, their desserts are pretty delicious and you shouldn't skip out on the brownie. Yum!

It's a very good place for people above mid 30's and above. Food is good, always you will found some of your friends. It's an icon in Coral Gables. Sometimes it's very crowded and they need to close the door, specially Friday's at 6 pm.

A little on the expensive side, but it's totally worth it. The first time I visited, we had the coconut shrimp and dip as appetizers. I had the French dip sandwich. If you want the best French dip sandwich, visit this restaurant. I've coming here often ever since.

Great drinks, loved the atmosphere. Food was great. Hung around because our flights were cancelled due to bad weather. They have a pretty descent wine selection at good prices. Went there 3 times, every time the service was great and the food didn't disappoint. We tried all the appetizers and they were amazing. My favorite was the salmon. My favorite entree was the prime rib. A great place to spend time with friends. This place is a bit loud but then when your with friends and good food and spirits one can't be quiet.

SHOCKED. Whats with the hype & great reviews? Ordered the veggie burger with ceasar salad. Hillstone please improve your salad menu, it is lacking greatly. Also, provide your customers with actual french fries instead of canola oil dipped twigs. Shame this place is in a great location, and seems to be fun for those into "happy hour" but the food is just unreasonable.

The sign outside says "Hillstone." The gold writing on the doors still says "Houston's." The menu appears to be pretty close to Houston's. This is really good, reliable and unadventurous food, but that was just what we wanted and in a great location (Miracle Mile and Ponce de Leon). While the food was good, the service was great! And this despite the fact the place was jammed by 1:00 PM. BTW the mojito made with Bacardi and plenty of mint was excellent.

We have never experienced anything but excellent food & service. Granted, the wait times are ridiculous and reservations would be a huge plus. Their spinach dip is awesome. And they serve up one of the best loaded baked potatoes of all time. If you r patience expires before your table is ready. There are many options within walking distance.

The wait time is horrific---- but that's only because the food is so darn great!!!! Our waitress was great once we got a table!! I had my birthday dinner here! Wine selection is decent!! I order several appetizers and loved them ALL!! And I'm a picky eater!! I ate every freaking thing that was placed in front of me!! They can do better with the wait time!! They would've gotten 5 stars- but that 50 minute wait time was just too long!

They don't want you to be happy they want you to be quiet. I went recently on my birthday inside at the bar with my girlfriend. The two guys sitting next to us started singing happy birthday to me. for some reason it pissed off the female maître d'. the next thing I know, I could not believe that their 'Rent a cop' was addressing me and said 'that this is a classy establishment to keep it down' I was insulted because he didn't address the guys that were singing Happy Birthday to me. I told this cop that me and my friend are 'not the ones singing'. We were minding our own business at the bar, the female maître d' doesn't want guys singing to other women. Clearly the rent a cop didn't have the balls to address the guys for singing but he will chastise attractive women for drawing their attention. The place was dead. I'm sure these guys would of bought us some drinks and increased their slow business on St. Patrick's day. We left not worth the humiliation. Someone said once that all press is good press well this process is bad manners press. NOTE: I've been their many times before for happy hours and dinners with friends and never experienced this before. Shame on your establishment. Poor service

This was my first time eating here but it won't be my last. We went before the dinner crowd so we walked in & were immediately seated. Our server Barbie, was excellent. She kept my drink refilled & never disappeared when I needed something. I had the famous Hickory burger I had read so much about which is now an "off menu" item. Had to drop that Canadian Bacon for some REAL Bacon though! The cheese bread app was great as was the Thai Steak salad & Key Lime Pie dessert. The food was a bit pricey at around $85 for two people with tip, but it was worth every penny! I will eat here again for sure.

We have been going to hillstone for many years. The last few times have been very unpleasant . We were at the bar having drinks and appetizers with clients and were asked to leave due to loud talking. The manager would not give his last name nor have a valid reason for escorting our party out. We have learned from other clients that they have had similar experiences. We are a group of professionals and are used to be treated as such. The new management should have training in customer relations.

Super delicious food and impeccable customer service. My husband loves the homemade veggie burger. Damn! I wish other restaurants would send their waiters there for proper training! Of course, I have one pet peeve! Fluffy to be exact!! Someone was allowed to bring their dog into the restaurant (not in a cage). Fluffy had his frickin paws on the dinner table. Isn't that a health code violation??? WTF!!!

I feel the need to write about this restaurant since dining recently there I have realized how overrated this place is...at least at the Coral Gables location. I havent done a review for awhile but i feel that this one is very much warranted. My reasoning for giving this place only two stars is because of the attitude that all of the servers, hosts included, have. It is like an air of entitlement, snobby, and stuck up. The food was good. I enjoyed the hamburger, but our server did not have a great personality. I am big on customer service since my family and I love to dine out so we know good service. Anyways, our server seemed very fake. It was like she knew she would be making a lot of money and we were just another table. I really wanted to hope that the service would be better than the last time I went a year ago but it didn't change. Everyone there acts like a robot. I wouldn't go back. Go to the Aventura location. It's on the water and the servers aren't so automotonic. If you are going to pay for your dining experience, you should get your money's worth and servers and hosts with stuck up attitudes aren't worth my time or money. Needs new management asap.

This restaurant is tasty, good seating with booth options, a large bar area and the lighting gives this spot an intimate feel. Parking is a bit difficult on the Mile unless your okay with valet service. My two go-to food options; salmon starter with toast points which is always delicious and the Caesar salad. Ask for Belle, she always delivers the best service with a great smile and attitude to boot. Call for a dinner reservation, this place gets really busy.

My mother has always raved about this place, so I figured I would give it a shot. Personally, I did not enjoy my experience. I decided to give it a try when I was hobbling around in crutches, and as I walked in I saw the host roll her eyes at me. I pretended not to see it, but it was clear I was unwelcome. It took a good few minutes for the waitress to finally come over. Note: It was lunch time and it wasn't busy. Anyways, my mother placed her order for ribs and they were good! I'd recommend it! As for the service, again our waitress was not attentive. Finally we called upon a young man who had been refilling our drinks and he was extremely helpful! He was quick and friendly, made me wish he had been out waiter. Overall, if the waitress and host had not been rude and inattentive I may have enjoyed it. As they say though, first impressions are lasting. Not sure I'll be coming back.

Houston's or Hillstone is the most consistent, and therefore, in my opinion, the best restaurant overall in Coral Gables for the greatest period of time. The fact that the restaurant is packed at every hour of the day is a testament to the fact that this is the best restaurant in coral Gables. The service at Hillstone is the best service of any restaurant, period. Hillstone sets the standard for other restaurants. Every item on the menu is as good any other time that you order it. All items are fresh and they have daily specials as well as daily soups. This is the only Houston's that also has fresh sushi that is better than most sushi restaurants in Miami. The restaurant is managed to perfection. They offer reservations for parties under four. They also offer takeout. When you order a takeout item, you are given all the same benefits, had you dined in the restaurant and everything is packaged amazingly. On occasion, they offer a sliced steak in steak butter sauce that is to die for. Their loaded baked potatoes are huge and amazing. Their salads (filet salad is my favorite) are healthy and delicious. I recommend the smoked salmon to start, and the french dip sandwich. They have the best veggie burger in the world, period. HOUSTONS/HILLSTONE IS THE BEST PLACE IN CORAL GABLES, PERIOD.

Today my wife and I were very badly treated by the manager Sophia Ein. They offered us a table at 11:30 pm and then they told us at around 12:30 that we could not order more wine because they were closing. Why then did they offer us the table? The manager could have told us they were closing and accepted to serve one more wine. That would have resolved the issue. However, she was inflexible and stated that they could not serve one more cup of wine. It ruined our dinner. This restaurant is over rated and the employees have become egotistic because there is demand. They are very popular today but this type of attitude is not correct.

Food was excellent. Hostess, not so much. When it comes to wait times, learn to under promise and over-deliver, not the other way around.

They have a new "bouncer" working on busy nights controlling the amount of people inside. The guy said it was for a better experience for everyone. But one can't help but think they're killing off the bar scene and sorting out the undesirables.

Up until today my review for this Houstons has been five stars. This has been my favourite place for 15 years. I have never had crap service or a crap meal in this time period. Tonight however was sub par. I am very nervous that my go to place has turned into a typical stick it to the customer corporate restaurant with shabby management... I hope I'm wrong.

Some people go back for the Spinach dip. meh. Some people go for the classics, like the bacon burger. moh. Some people go for the cocktails. mum. Random: It's the Sushi that stands out at Houston's in Coral Gables. I swear, growing up in Hawaii, I find the fish selection at many sushi places in Miami (um, we're on the water, no?) to leave me wanting to swim back home. It's surprising, then, to find a hidden gem in a restaurant I fondly remember from Boston as a high-end chain serving "American Classics". The fish was fresher than most places I've found in the Miami, and the chefs were legit. The sushi isn't necessarily traditional (*salivating* the macadamia roll... mmmm), but the freshness plus the extra 'pizzaz' on the rolls really makes a trip there a treat. The menu is diverse, and full of interesting/unique creations, and I haven't tried enough of them yet... so please, if you have a recommendation, send to me :-) It's just weird, living on the ocean, and finding my ultimate 'creature comfort' in such an unlikely place. Did I mention the restaurant is a knockout in terms of interior design? For an upscale diner, it's inspiring.

This had to be the longest I have ever waited for a seat: 20 minutes. I gave up and just sat at the bar when two seats opened up. I am not one to wait for an extended period of time, NOTHING tastes that good. After calming myself at the bar with my Stella, I began to actually look at the menu. I decided to forsake any of the appetizers and go directly for my entree: Stella Artois Vodka 7-up with lime New York strip with FF and au jus Red Snapper with lemon butter sauce and tomato salad As busy as the restaurant was, as long as it took us to get seats (even at the bar), our entrees came out rather quickly. I began to eat my fish; it was not good. The sauce was just terrible, and it doused the fish. I stopped eating the fish and ransacked my friends dinner. The steak was good. The steak was very good. It was at this point that I realized I ordered the wrong thing and set about eating my tomatoes, which were at best average in flavor. I will return...for the steak. I don't know that I could ever handle that fish again.

I am a Houston's addict and have been eating here maybe 2-3 times a week for lunch since they opened since my office is on Miracle Mile. I love the veggie platter, veggie burger, burger, fresh fish (always 4-5 selections of the day) simply grilled with chef's dressing, ribs, the BEST fries in the world, etc., etc... Amazing wine list with several poured by the glass. Also, the markup is usually 2x or less.

This has to be one of my favorite places in all of Miami. I can never go wrong coming here to eat. My favorite dish is "Hawaiian Ribeye Pittsburgh Medium-Rare" this is my piece of heaven. I recommend this 110% and the customer service is always on point. Spinach dip is also legit!

Sent my friend a message before ordering, check on my table 14 minutes later. Not the place to go for good food! Go to Morton's all was precooked. Potato cold steak so so. Check another place out before burning $50 plus a plate on cold food

This is a company that I expect much more from. The price point sets the bar for premium food and service. Today the did not deliver as usual. Houston's pride themselves on supirior standards and sourcing the best products and employees. I've love dining with them all over the southeast. We stopped in for lunch on Saturday, right around opening. The servers were having their pre-shift meeting across the restaurant. Not sure if they were getting yelled at by the GM, but no one looked excited, and walked away mubling quietly to eachother. Greeters were very welcoming, bright, and on point. Linette was fantastic behind the bar. Sometimes I think theyre not allowed to smile, but she made us feel very welcome. There were fruit flies everywhere. They breed in the drains, so it takes special care to keep them at bay. After seeing that, I noticed this place was pretty dirty in all the unsuspecting places. We tried a few sushi rolls. They were fresh, but could use some better design to highlight different flavors. The wrong fresh combinations can sometimes come across bland, when it comes to sushi. I ordered the hickory burger, I think. Canadian bacon - why? There was the biggest mound of cheddar ever, on the homade bun. Great bun. Great burger seasoning and flavor. Was overcooked to well, from med. Fail. Didnt like the type of fry. Just my preference. Green beans werent great. I wouldve opted for no seasoning. I'm kinda bored typing, and I dont think too many people care.... so bye for now.

Wonderful restaurant! The food is always delicious, impeccable service and run by very admirable people. When my fiancé and I ate here the night we were engaged, they overheard us talking and took care of the bill. Things like that are rare in Miami. This is truly a great place to enjoy a meal

Great steak house and even better happy hour! You can't go wrong eating here even if you're not in the mood for a traditional steak. I've had the ribeye, porkchop and the hawaiian mix--all good to go! Drink prices are pretty good and they have a good beer selection in case you feel like throwing back more than your usual 12 pack of PBR. The ambiance here is also kick ass--you'll find 40 something year old cougars on the prowl right next to 20 something year career chicks, either way the wrath of Greg G aka Meester Longo will come hither...... Great spot, lunch is good too!

My favorite restaurant in Miami. Spinach Artichoke dip is amazing. AMAZING. And the grilled chicken salad is the best salad I've ever had. I order these two things every single time I go there. Everything else on the menu is ok...not great...not definitely not bad. Grapefruit juice is fantastic as well. Fantastic ambiance...dark setting with candlelight. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE in Miami...hands down. Every single waiter is nice to you...you walk by, they say hello and smile. Only negative is that you can not make reservations and it is a little pricey. I go there once a month.

Eating at Hillstone's is like attending a high school reunion and seeing people you haven't seen in 10 years -- very familiar, but still slightly different than the guy or girl you use to hang with back in the day. Yes, this used to be Houston's. We all knew and loved that place. The owners of Houston's sold the nationwide chain, but kept some of the plum restaurants for themselves (Coral Gables being among the top). That's why they changed the name. They've also subtly tweaked the menu. For example, the salads have gotten better - and they were good to start with. Also, service is still very solid, among the best in Miami. But I give 4 stars and not 5 because Houston's was something special. Solid carnivorous delight, with consistency across the menu. But now, something *has* changed, and it seems to me that its a move towards more healthy ingredients and fare. I suppose this is good, and my brain tells me to want it, but my heart and stomach still long for the strictly gut busting Houston's of old. So yes, I recommend this place. But, like a good friend you haven't seen in 10 or 20 years, the familiar parts that you love are somehow different. Sometimes your old friends go a bit hippy on you. Some people like hippy, some don't. But nothing stays the same, does it?

Went for valentines day, me and my bf went around 5 wasn't too busy as it got later the busier . The food was so fresh and the presentation was well decorated I order the Osaka style sushi press and the Thai steak noodle salads, it was a bit on the spicy side. My bf order a roast beef sandwich which came with a French dip and horse radish both dishes are very good and well recommended, the negative side was our waitress was a bit slow and it took awhile for her to get to us but the food came out faster than I would've expected to be ! Which was great !

This restaurant used to be named Houston's, only in the last year or so it was renamed to the parent company's name, Hillstone. Why? I don't know. I've eaten here once and come to drink at the bar another. The food is good and the drinks were strong. My problem is that there is nothing special about anything. There is no signature dish or signature drink. The theme is just bland. Waiting for a table is a VERY long process on busy times, but you can eat at the bar to make life easier. Bottom Line: Remarkably unremarkable, good for a simple upscale experience

I've been to many restaurants in Miami and needless to say we have quite a few good ones. This place is consistently FABULOUS. The food is always amazing and the service is spectacular. On average I go there at least once a week, maybe twice. It is very reasonably priced considering the level of service and the quality of the food. The bar is great and the bartenders are the best ever. My very favorite is Tony. Not only does he make stellar drinks but he's always smiling and goes out of his way to make sure that my friends and I are all taken care of. Yes...sometimes there is a wait for a table but you can always go the bar and ask for Tony...he'll make it all better!

Used to be my favorite restaurant, regularly visited since it opened in Coral Gables over 10 years ago and always well worth the wait. My favorite lunch was the fish sandwich. Florida grouper grilled over hardwood...outstanding and honestly the best fish sandwich in Miami and the best I had anywhere. A while back it was taken off the menu but was always available on special order. Visited last week and shocked to learn the fish sandwich is no longer available even on special order. Talked to one of the floor managers and she advised they were making changes to the menu and among the casualties was the fish sandwich. Guess after all these years I will have to start looking for alternative restaurants. Too bad. Hope Hillstone's management reconsiders.

So, I should have ordered what I always do-the burger and martini. Instead I figured I would try something new and ordered the Florida Black Grouper with Rock Shrimp. I was disappointed, big time. First off, the first dish that came out was extremely over cooked and tasteless with the tiniest rock shrimp I have ever seen. I sent it back and got another one to give it another try. The second one was cooked much better, but the smell was awful, I couldn't even eat it due to the awful "fishy' smell! I didn't send it back again because I felt bad, but I did eat the petite shrimp on the side. When I think of Rock Shrimp, I think of good size shrimp that you get at other establishments, so needless to say, I would NOT order this again. I would go back to the 5 star burger and fries! However, my husband got the pork ribs and LOVED them and we also got the Chicago Style spinach dip which was OUTSTANDING!! As always, there martinis are nice and stiff; expensive at $14-15 a drink, but worth it. We will go back, but I'm stickin' to what I know is good!

Hands down my favorite place to grab a bite. Houstons aka now Hillstone produces pure pleasure from start to finish. You can't really go wrong with anything they have here which is why this place is so great. The menu stays fairly consistent but since everything they make is so good and perfectly prepared it's no wonder so many folks love coming back. Hillstone isn't about gimmick drinks or dishes, it's about quality and perfection on every item they place in front of you. Items you NEED to try: Thai Tuna Roll Tres Leches (available here at CG location, not in Aventura) Beef Ribs (when they have them!)

One of my favorite places to come and have a nice dinner. I eat pretty frequently here and I am never disappointed. I always order the same think: appetizer: crab cakes= heaven; for dinner: the chicken salad with an amazing peanut sauce and I always ask for extra avocado which makes for an absolutely delicious meal; and DESSERT - my favorite dish in any restaurant hands down - the home made tres leches!!! It is soooo good..I really just come for the happy ending - the delicious tres leches. Must try this restaurant!!!

Two nights in a row, we tried to eat here. While there were 4-5 open tables, the front hostess made us and other wait an average of 15-30 minutes. The second night was a very slow Sunday. There are much better options on the Miracle Mile. This chain takes itself too serious. Expect to wait but not worth it

  • Janine R.

So, I was a little confused as to why in the world they would change the infamous HOUSTON'S on miracle mile to Hillstone? Not sure what correlation the name has to anything but alright. I was a bit disappointed in coming here only because the service was horrid! After being harassed by the general manager to throw out our drinks from the carnival on the mile festival, he proceeded to tell us that he needed a credit card to "secure" our table. I totally get that the restaurant was extremely full, but I thought that was unnecessary. Once the waitress finally took our order she kept playing Houdini and disappearing every 5 minutes. We literally maybe only got like two water refills if that. The food of course was delicious as always. That was not the issue at all. Not only was the service terrible, but the waitress screwed up our bill and charged the wrong amount. After calling the GM over again, he told us he would take care of it and took off about $20 from our bill. Other then the service being horrible, the food is fantastic and they have a great atmosphere during happy hour.

I love this place! With a reservation you won't have any problems to get a table. Food is excellent! Tuna Sashimi is the best in town. Drinks are too strong for my taste, but you can always ask to make it lighter. Every time I go there, I have a great experience.

The Doors still say Houston's and the menu is still Houston's but the restaurant is now known as Hillstone. Regardless, it is still a wonderful chain restaurant. The atmosphere is very subdued and the service is exceptional, however i did get a little tired of my waitress coming over and wiping my table every five minutes when there was an errant crouton or my drink got water on the table. I started with the deviled eggs, why? Because they were different, I have never seen deviled eggs on a menu so I thought, they must be so wonderful that the chef just had to share them with the world. In actuality, they were good but nothing to rave about. Next I enjoyed the Caesar salad which was wonderful, maybe a little over dressed but that is how I like my salads, (How did they know?) Finally, I had the bone in Prime Rib which was very good. It came served with a loaded potato which I didn't try, but it looked delicious. I would definitely recommend Houston's, I mean Hillstone.

It's not as great as it seems. For such a pricey place, food and service could be better. Baked potatoe all reheated and dull. Cheesecake factory it's way better. Ladies bathrooms don't have a purse hanger (a basic)!!!! Dont order sushi..., pricey!! Want sushi? Head to a sushi place. I learned my lesson. :0(

This will be my only Houston's review for Yelp and I chose the location in Coral Gables since I've been frequenting this location most recently. I have been dining at Houston's restaurants for over 15 years now all across the nation. I have been to all their concepts including Gulf Stream, Bandera and most of their grills including the one in Napa. Houston's for me is and always will be about comfort and consistency. Their formula is perfect and it is always a favorable experience regardless in what city I happen to visit. Thank You!

I am very torn at the moment. I am usually a fan of Hiilstone, or Houston's or whatever it;s called. I asked why they changed their name and the server said it was more appropriate for the area... Really?!? Hiilstone is appropriate for Miami? LEts starts of with our arrival 2 hour wait WHOA that is a bit absurd so we asked if we can sit in those tiny little tables that are somewhat outside/inside. I mean those things shouldnt even be considered a table. The lovely hostess said we can sit in those tiny tables and sent us around the side. Guess what there is no entrance on the side so we had to jump the little fence that was there. Upon our escapade to find a seat the harassment began. The manager came to use and gave us a funny look I guess because we had drinks in our hand and jumped the fence (which we were sent to do by your fine hostess) raised some concern. So they sent us to throw out our drinks and we need to "secure" our table with a credit card. What can I say I guess we look like dine and dashers. FInally we ordered I was the only FAT A$$ eating so I ordered the mouth watering french dip au jous. It was delicious as usual the only problem is after receiving my dish I never saw the server again. So my mouth was dry from any liquid for quite some time. Finally contact with the manager we finally close out our tab. When some random person brings us tab he is hounding over us like we werent going to pay. The guy screws up and charges us incorrectly. Come on how hard is it to charge 40$ MORON! At this point I had enough. We spoke to manager told him how unpleasant the service was, and how we were being treated like we were in detention. He comped my French dip which was nice but it doesnt make the experience any better.

This newly discovered delight, is simply delectable! I was at my favorite lunch spot (Houston's in Coral Gables) with a friend of mine and he ordered the "Kale Salad". Curious to know what it was, I asked for a bite when the waitress brought it to the table. Funny thing is, I ended up eating the whole thing because it was just that good! A mix of leafy goodness, this salad is sprinkled with peanuts and parmesean cheese, and drizzled with an amazing peanut and seaseme oil dressing (I think). Whatever the case, its absolutely irresistible and healthy! Eat up!

I've gotta agree with most other reviewers here; This place is good overall, but nothing sensational and seems to be overrated. I've been here a few times to have dinner for 2 and there was a 45 minute wait each time..We always found somewhere else to go. The one time I did decide to eat here was when we were a party of 3 for dinner. We did need to wait for a bit (they are adamant about not taking your reservation until EVERYONE in your party is actually at the restaurant) and I can tell you that the service was decent, but the menu wasn't outstanding and for the price, the portions were quite small. That being said, the food really was tasty and, aside from the wait and the price paid for the small portions, we were all completely satisfied with everything here.

I would visit Houston's more often if it weren't for extra long wait times. I even went once around 11pm on a Saturday night and they were still open and pretty full. The house-made veggie burger and the hand-cut french fries are soooo good. The Thai steak and noodle salad is also great. Yes, its one of those big, bad chain restaurants, but the food and service are always great.

  • Katherine F.

Hillstone, originally called Houston's, is mediocre. People come here more for the scene. The food is hardly inventive, and not great. Everything is cooked in butter. If you want to avoid dairy, you can only eat sushi. This restaurant wants to be fancy, but is just bla. Might as well just come here for drinks.

  • John Y. C.

Can't say much more than what most people have already wrote about... but... to Houston's credit .... wait 45 min for a table and they'll find you at the bar and bring your drinks to your table. Not bad for having such a long waiting list and they find you wherever you are. ... want something quick, extremely tasty, and filling, go with the tuna steak plate. A nice tuna steak cut in large bite-sized pieces topped with their sauce. Served on a white plate with a small side of pickled ginger. Everytime I order it at the bar, I have someone ask me about it (or maybe they're looking for a way to start a conversation?). ...everybody loves the spinach dip. Tip: grab a chip and take on some dip, sour cream, and the salsa altogether on one bite. A flavor and texture sensation! Check out the eery woman painting along the backside of the restaurant. Her eyes follow you everywhere you go!! Wait service has always been top notch.

I had lunch with 6 friends this past Friday, the service was perfect, but the food was heaven, we all talked about our lunch. This is a drive for us since we came from west Miami, but the drive was worth it. I had the crab cake salad, avocado , it was the best I ever had. We ordered Tres Leches cake , I never had a better cake. Congratulation on a job well done, even though the place was packed.

Ahhh Houston's. Houston's or Hillstone is like the woman everyone wants to marry. She is reliable, consistent, moderately priced, and faithful. You may wander and visit other restaurants, but you will eventually end up back in her arms lol. Nothing bad to say about this place. It's great anytime and any day of the week.

I've been here a number of times, back when it was Houstons and now as Hillstone. I must say we had the biggest ditz of a server. Anything we ordered, she misunderstood. When I changed my mind about a soup so the table could have an appetizer, she said "sure coming right up" and neither came out. Our food was unevenly distributed. two members in our party ordered the same thing, one person got a piece of fish that could feed an army and the other person got a piece of fish that couldn't fill a 4 year old. The server overall was mediocre. The only plus was there was no wait. I was confused because there wasn't a happy hour either.

The almighty Houston's. It's fashionable to take shots at this place, but I must admit that this establishment does what it does extremely well. I'll jump right into it - when's the last time you had sub-par service at this Houston's? The servers and bartenders are attentive, personable, and very well-spoken. Even when the place is jammed, food arrives within a very reasonable time - there never seems to be any kitchen staffing issue. With all the self-important douchebags encountered here, the consistently outstanding service is all the more impressive. Which brings me to one of my negatives. I despise the crowd here. It's "Obnoxious Middle-Aged Nouveau Riche Banker/Lawyer Miami." You know what I'm talking about, oh yes, you know. On a recent lunch at the bar, there was a group of 45 year old martini-at-lunch-drinking suits obviously totally stoked about the fact they all had iPhones, prominently displaying them for everyone to see. And then there are the plastered 40-something "ladies who lunch," they don't have a damned thing to do with their lives other than go to Houston's and drink wine on the husband's dollar. Caution: eating at Houston's may induce vomiting.....and not because of the food. Thankfully, there are some items on this small menu I absolutely adore. As I said, what they choose to do, they usually do quite well. Case in point, the "Evil Jungle Thai Steak Salad." I still call it that, even though they got all nauseatingly P.C. about it and dropped the "Evil Jungle" part. Whatever you call it, this is one hell of a steak salad. Good god, that's tasty. I don't know what they do to those steak cubes, but they are so well-marinated and tender. Add the noodles....mango.....avocado....peanuts, and you have a real winner. Truthfully, whenever I order this, it elicits food envy from complete strangers at the bar. Inevitably, someone will ask me "what's that??" It looks amazing, and tastes even better. There's also the veggie burger. Be forewarned, this is a bit of a mess - and order it "dry," it doesn't need all the mustard and mayo crap. The veggie patty doesn't hold its physical integrity very well, made of seemingly little but beans and rice, but it is so good. It would seem to me that they try to hold it together with some kind of carmelized molasses, but it doesn't quite work - large chunks of it will inevitably fall onto your plate. Or on your pants, if you're not careful. I warned you. If you're in the mood for a hamburger, the "Hickory Burger" is also ridiculously good. They will cook the beef to my specifications every time, and the Canadian bacon, cheddar and special BBQ sauce makes a great burger otherworldly. I don't indulge this craving often, but when I do, I'm a happy man. I'm sorry, the spinach dip is highly overrated. That's all I'll say about that. But don't take my word for it, maybe it's because I have a visceral hatred for cream-based "dips." Try it for yourself, because everyone seems to rave about it. Just not me. We come to dessert, and the famous Houston's Key Lime Pie. Let me preface this section by saying that I am a Key Lime Pie purist. I come from a Key West family, so love for authentic Key Lime Pie is encoded in my DNA. I am a very harsh critic when it comes to this pie. This isn't authentic KLP....but then again, it never claimed to be. I don't have a problem with chefs trying to reinvent the venerable pie, I just have a problem with people passing whipped-cream-and-plain-lime-juice pies off as "Authentic Key Lime Pie!" The Houston's pie, while not at all the classic pie, is an outstanding reinvention. You get a thick, nutty graham crust as a solid backbone and counterpoint to a filling that I believe to be of real Key Lime origin. What I mean by that is that it's not just tart, it has a bitterness to it as well. Ignorant people will often tell me there's no taste difference between a Key Lime and a regular lime....but there definitely is. The Key Lime, besides being more tart, has an earthy bitterness that the regular lime does not. But I digress. This is an outstanding slice of pie. Price is typically a complaint, one to which I will give some credence. It is a bit overpriced, especially considering it's a large corporate chain. -1 star for the price, -0.5 star for the crowd.

Fairly nice ambiance, very crowded with a superficially attractive yet overly predatory crowd. High noise level! I do think that I preferred this chain when it was still Houstons and not this current iteration. I sat at the bar and had bland overpriced sushi followed by an unusually good Key Lime Pie. Based on my experience it's not worth the money and I certainly won't be going back. Still, if you're at that certain age, perhaps mid thirties to mid fifties (assuming you're trying for mid forties in the latter case), and are looking for that certain someone, join the crowd. It may be that I'm too old or too cynical that I wonder if the subsequent content of your new contact will live up to the packaging!

The food is not bad, price per value though, not the best. lt is clearly over rated, and not worth the dollar price for your meal. l was quite annoyed to have to pay SO much for the meal, yet they would do nothing to control a table behind us where the kids were throwing straws across the room. l have been 4 times so this review is based upon many visits. Not impressed in the least. The food is good, but again.. Texas De Brasil much better!

This place is truly a fail-safe, I absolutely love it. Have nothing bad to say at all. The first thing about this place that really stuck out for me were the servers. They were all in great moods, smiling, ready to help you. I absolutely LOVE that in a place. Even as I was walking to the restroom numerous servers were making sure I wasn't lost. I really appreciate that. The food here is great, you can order anything and be sure that it is going to be well cooked and delicious. Now... for my favorite thing in here... The Cosmopolitan's! A few years ago I decided that I would seek out the best Cosmo out there and would make it a point to order it whenever I was in a new restaurant/bar to see how it measured up. I reached the peak when I ordered one here. It's perfect! If you're a Cosmo lover like me you should definitely try it. Yummy until the very last drop!

What's the most noticeable thing about Houston's? The sheer amount of cougars you'll find. Seriously. Last time I saw this many cougars in one place I was watching a special on Animal Planet. I dig the older chicks, they're fantastic and buy their young prey lots of material stuff because they have these great things called "disposable income" and "divorce settlements." If you're a fan of cougars, then Houston's is the place to be. You usually find people spilling out of this place any given night of the week, but it gets especially filled up on Friday nights until about 11 PM when they either close or all the cougars and sugar daddies in business suits go home to have their warm cup of milk and 8 hours of sleep. Because they're old. There's a pretty big bar area here with bartenders that seem to have a thing for winking much more than any grown non-construction working adult should. It could've been some nervous tick or Tourette syndrome in which case I [should] apologize. I believe I had a Newcastle, or four. Newcastle Brown Ale is by itself a commendable effort in brewing, but couple it with the sight of a couple of 38-year-old divorcees and you've got yourself a veritable treat! Some of you might think a 38-year-old is a little too fine-aged for a 25-year-old chap like myself, but you'd only be just barely correct. There's a formula for this which is her age divided by 2, plus 7. That would put her minimum prowling age at 26, just a year shy of mine. My birthday is in a month. Party in Houston's? Capital idea, I say! But seriously, I can appreciate a cougar. I had a steak while my friend had a salad. He must've grown a vagina while I was in the restroom. It was a prime rib steak and when I bit into it Obama got elected again in my mouth. The second bite cured AIDS. The third made me gasp for air a little bit because I was so excited I swallowed it without chewing. Stupid move on my part. I taunted my friend about his salad and asked if he'd like to give me a little bit so I can let him toss it. We exchanged a few more homo-erotic jokes in the same manner then I continued with the steak. The service wasn't noteworthy, but that doesn't necessarily make it bad. It's like being second-class on the Titanic. Except for the whole being on a ship thing. And it sinking. And it being 1912. Actually it's nothing like being second-class on the Titanic. Our waiter did join in laughter when I belittled my friend for his choice of entree. If you like cougars, try Houston's. Or the zoo. PEOPLE WHO WOULD ENJOY IT: Steak lovers; guys who want a sugar mama to buy them Xbox games; cougars with Xbox games. PEOPLE WHO WOULD NOT ENJOY IT: Anyone who orders a caesar salad for dinner and doesn't have a runway show the next morning.

Best veggie burger on earth. You won't realize you're not eating meat. If you're thinking frozen garden burger, forget it. This thing is serious. I always have to excuse myself to wash my hands after wrangling with it. Ask for the loaded baked potato on the side, not always mentioned by the server. And my best friend loves the crab cakes. They are delicious (and $26). Another secret menu item you have to ask about. Service is unparalleled in Miami, unless you're going to a Ruth's Chris or something. But for a $14 meal that will keep you stuffed all day, how can you possibly ask for more? Only thing is that we go here on our once-a-week date away from our toddler, and they consistenly sit us in the noisy kids area near the back wall. Last time we asked for a table near the bar, and I wasn't constantly reminded of who'd be waiting for me with his own sticky fingers when I got home. P.S. Tres leches for dessert. Shut. Up.

I'm confused-- I leave Miami for two weeks and come back to find Houston's is now a Hillstone. From what I've seen on the Hillstone site, Houston's is a restaurant owned by the Hillstone restaurant group. I'm hoping this is just a name change.I have not eaten at Hillstone/Houston's since the change, but I plan on revising my "yelp" once I eat there. For now I give Houston's a 5-star rating. Houston's has great tasting crab cakes, fresh squeezed OJ, sushi, and, my favorite, pulled rotisserie chicken added onto the Gables salad.

Some people tend to dog this place due to it's extreme popularity. With that fact comes many consequences we don't like to run into when we are going to dinner. Consequences like long wait times, possible long waits for food, and bad service. The thing with Houston's is that if you truly want to enjoy the experience here, you have to come at the right time. That time is best reserved for sundays before 7pm and mondays-wednesday evenings. Thursday-Friday-Saturday nights is a sure guarantee you will wait at least an hour to grab a table. For the most part, the prices are high, but not out of reach when you know the food here is done well. There isn't much to choose from. Its either steaks or salads or sandwiches. In all, you can surely bet you'll have a delicious meal and have a good time (as long as you are aware of the 'wait' hurdles). The decor is straight-up northern california steakhouse style. Very napa, Very sonoma. Maybe that's why its so popular with the late 20s to late 40s crowd. Its a great place for groups, but try to stick your groups to 5 or less as MOST tables are booths with few make-shift tables to fit LARGE parties. Its also worth noting that they will not seat you until your entire party is present (which can be a real pain if you've waited a long time to get a table) All in all, Houston's fits Coral Gables' clientele like a glove and depsite its shortcomings with popularity you can't resist the fact that this restaurant not only offers great steaks but also offers excellent salads and burgers.

Formerly known as Houston's. If you come here you have to have the Spinach DIP!! It is amazing and they're not stingy, The burgers are delish and they come with skinny fries which are addictive. If you ask for it medium done, you'll get it medium done. I would not suggest the Sushi here. If you come here on a Friday afternoon for Happy Hour you will find it packed with professionals who work in the area talking up a storm. Bad part...No Happy Hour Special =(. Just a note, if you want to come eat here I suggest you get here almost an hour before you want to eat because there is usually a long wait. The good part is that you can wait while having a drink at the bar which is usually packed as well. Another good thing is if you are lucky enough to find a seat at the bar you can order you're food here too. Enjoy!

What's up with this place ? it must be location although the parking situation can be pretty wretched unless you drop some cash in the vale parking. So pay too much for parking, wait too long for a table, pay too much for food with no added value. Sorry folks, can't see the value here. Food is good though, and the service tends to be consistently good as well. Having said that, you can get better burgers elsewhere for sure. pass...

Houston's, I heart you. Out of probably 50 visits to Houston's, I always leave completely happy and satisfied. Whether you're here for a business lunch, a birthday, happy hour, or plain ole' dinner, disappointment is never on the menu. Indeed, the no reservations policy puts a damper on the idea of dining and dashing, but you have 2 options: (1) beat the crowd; or, (2) join 'em. For the Gables, Houston's is the scene to be seen. Order a martini (they make them strong) or a glass of wine, prop yourself on a stool and feast your eyes on Miami's finest. Who am I kidding...it's your typical yuppie (or cougar) Gables crowd. Make no mistake, the kitchen always delivers. Great steak, great fish, great salads...but my menu is fixed these days. As a starter, there's the best spinach dip in town. Followed by one of my biggest cravings, Houston's French Dip Sandwich with a loaded baked potato. I have ventured to try other french dips (undeserving of capital letters), but absolutely none compare. Is it the bread, the meat, or the au jus? Put it all together and you've got yourself a delicious food coma. As for service, Houston's just has the perfect system. It's a team approach. Some one takes your drink order immediately when you sit, then you have your regular server, and if you're done with plates, another server will just pick them up. Houston's is the complete package. Now, if only Gables' valet would be so efficient...sigh.

This place is great! I have eaten here many, many times since it opened about ten years ago and I have never had a bad meal. I have been here for lunch, eating at the bar or tables, dinner for a meal out or a special occasion. I have had most of their sandwiches, most of their soups and alot of their main courses. It's always good and always a great dining experience. Here's some of my favorites: Cheeseburger - you can taste the quality in the meat, the bun and the cheese. Pan Fried Yellowtail - so delicately breaded, it has a slightly buttery taste. Barbecue Baby Back Ribs - the meat really does fall off the bone. Chili (served only on Saturday) - meaty chunks of meat, just enough heat. Here's a good tip: order the vegetable platter and sub out something for a loaded baked potato. It is a very filling lunch but guilt free (unless you feel guilty about butter and sour cream.) Finally, the place so well run, the staff so professional and on top of everything. The interiors are great, natural wood, copper, concrete block walls, terrazzo floors and leather banquette seats. It's a great dining experience.

Had lunch on a weekday. Waited about 30 minutes for a table. We were 6 and got a nice corner booth. I'm watching my caloric intake so I had a smallish steak and the Caesar salad. I didn't want to but I caved and had some yummy bread too. Heavenly steak, cooked to perfection (medium rare). Salad was spectacular. The bread? I couldn't have just one, it was so good! The service was stellar. I loved every minute of my lunch (except the waiting for the table, but I got to people watch and study the very limited menu) . Definitely will return and soon.

Formerly Houstons - I believe Hillstone is the parent company. Anyway - service is still amazing and food as good as I remember. Went for lunch with family- we had the Thai steak salad , cheeseburger, and the grilled chicken Biltmore sandwich, for an appetizer we had the sushi plate(so good). I don't have one complaint about the food, everything was amazing. I definitely recommend the Thai steak salad, is made with filet mignon, and the portion size is good for two, but is so good that you are not going to want to share it. I had before the BBQ ribs - best ones I ever had-

Houston's is cool, it's like a chic place in the gables where you can go get drinks meet your girl friends for happy hour and meet some people along the way, The bar area is fairly large but notice that this place is full any given day so you may have to walk around with your drinks. For dinner, the wait story its a little similar, they don't take reservations so be prepare to wait at least 45 min. for a table. Now, don't get scared because after you get your table, service is superb and the food is delicious (I stick with meat and poultry plates, I tried the sushi once and was not a fave). And if you are a vegeterian (or not!) the Beans Veggie Burger is a must try. Being in Coral Gables Miracle Mile, parking is always a little bit of a hazzle, but you can always valet.

Someone please explain to me why we have to walk around the patrons of Houston's every weekend night??? Am I missing something? The food is mediocre. There are great restaurants on the mile that are wayyyy better than Houston's and yet everyone flocks to Houston's??? This is certainly a sign that people like it!!!! Smoked Salmon appetizer is okay.... Burger is good.... Must be giving away something other than food inside =.. ;) TOO BUSY FOR KIDS!!!!!!

From time to time the hubsters and I stop in at Houston's to eat. It had been a long time since we had done so, but this last Sunday when we found out that another restaurant we were going to try in the area was closed, we decided to stop in at ol' reliable Houston's. One of the things we love about Houston's is the impeccable service. I absolutely love how all of the servers cover for each other. If a server that doesn't pertain to our table passes by and see that our glasses of water are starting to dwindle down, boom- they fill it right back up. If our server passes by another table and see that they need more bread, boom- more bread is served. Need more wine (which I always do! lol)? Done. Never ever have I had to complain (even internally) here about poor service because it is never the case...and I love that! There's also something about the atmosphere that draws us back to this location time and time again. The main dining room is dimly lit with candle on each table and low lighting along the exposed ceiling beams. There's nice ambient music playing loud, but not too loudly and although there is a constant buzz from the people all around you, you can still here the person sitting right next to you or in front of you. All of these factors combined give Houston's a sexy vibe in my opinion. The food is pretty good too, but I have to admit that we somehow always end up with the burgers. The burgers here are so tasty and juicy and the fries that come along with it are delicious! This past weekend we also got the sushi sampler which was also very fresh and good. I love their shrimp roll with macadamia nuts and their all vegetable roll is also unbelievably good! When it comes to chain restaurants my husband and I usually have a take it or leave it attitude about them. With most chain restaurants we take the "leave it" option, but with Houston's we definitely go with the "take it" option.

Whatever day of the week it is, whether for lunch or dinner, this restaurant is packed! Classy, upscale atmosphere with clientele to match. Start with an amazing chicago style spinach dip, served hot with chips and salsa, or some authentic smoked salmon served with bread crisps and mayonnaise dill spread. In addition, this Houston's offers a unique sushi menu which is delicious. For an entree, my personal favorite is the Hickory Burger. Served with fresh shredded cheddar cheese and Houston's own Hickory Sauce, this burger is king (sorry Burger King, you've been dethroned!). In addition, the fish specials always sounds interesting, and your server will be sure to inform you of them before your order. This restaurant gets 5 stars not only for food, but the service is phenomenal. You can always look at your glass as half full when your at Houston's. The staff makes sure of it ;)

While the food is good, I find this place to be overrated. It seems to me as if though it's just a glamorized American style restaurant, like Chill's or Applebee's. I don't find the menu selection to be too interesting, especially considering the prices. If you're going to pay that type of money for dinner, find someplace else to go. They do have a good happy hour, though. If you get there early enough you can find a spot at the bar and enjoy the crowd.

I dont give a lot of 5 star reviews but this location is great! The service is quick (once you are actually seated) and the food is unreal. I love their Caesar Salad w/ chicken, their ribs w/ fries, and their spicy tuna appetizer.

I have eaten at Hillstone with friends, I must say for a restaurant that offers anywhere from hamburgers to sushi I'm amazed at how good this restaurant is. The sushi rolls are fresh and the sushi chefs are very creative and talented. the spinach artichoke dip is a great starter, virtually every dish I have had here has been tasty and high quality. The best part of an evening at Hillstone is the BAR...always packed with friendly professional people, the bartenders are lots of fun and the drinks are awesome. They have a great martini menu. I strongly recommend this place if you are in town and just want to have a good time and good food to end you evening.

One of the very few chain restaurants I like. Great service, good food, and it really isn't that expensive. Note: For those of you who can't find parking, there are at least two inexpensive parking garages a block away.

This is one of the few places I go vegetarian when eating. Their veggie burger is extremely flavorful. I get the salad instead of the fries (try to keep the meal healthy) and it is also very good and light. Ambiance is nice (it is obviously a chain restaurant), nice decor, good crowd. Another plus is they offer chimay which isn't always found at restaurants.

Fantastic! Although I don't get over this way very often, when I am craving a meat and potatoes kinda meal - this is my one and only. I have been coming to Houstons' restaurant's forever, I have tried the NYC, Pompano Beach, Orlando, and Miami locations and they are all top notch! The service is superb and professional and mostly I keep coming back for the consistency of the food and the cleanliness of the restaurant. My top picks* To Start - smoked salmon (AMAZINGLY good ask for extra lemon) Spinach and artichoke dip (Chips are perfectly salty!) The mains- French dip ( substitute fries for a veggie if you want to be sort of healthy) Prime Rib always with a loaded baked potato Hawain rib-eye delicious Ribs with coleslaw The meals are huge so plan to share or take home left-overs! Enjoy ;-)

Wow! Great place; busy and noisy, but the food is sensational! The service was very friendly and efficient and even if you're on a time-budget, they'll get you served and you're ready to go. I'd definitely go again...and again.

I remember when Houstons came to town. I boycotted the place because I thought it was a place for hipsters and jerks who wanted to be seen... And then I went. Houstons is now one of my favorites. The food is the not the best but it is damn good and always consistent. I have tried the steaks, fish, sushi, hamburers, and salads. Its seems as if you can blind fold yourself and just point on anything on the menu and you will be happy. The service is best thing Houstons offers. I wonder if the staff was trained in Disney World. They are always smiling and seem to fall over themselves to accomidate you. Houstons is really one of those feel good places. The food is always good and the service is amazing and the restaurant itself is nice yet casual.... Great happy hour as well.. I guess I did end up liking this place even it is full of a bunch of jerks who just want to be seen.

I like coming here for lunch on a weekday when I'm in the mood to relax, maybe have a beer, and order my absolute favorite salad in the world! The Sashimi Tuna Salad (no longer printed on the menu, but go ahead and ask for it!) is sooo good. It's a bed of mixed greens topped with sliced mango, diced ripe avocado, onions, and sliced seared tuna. The honey lime vinaigrette is delicious, but I always order it on the side so I can control the amount I use. The Biltmore Chicken Sandwich and the grilled mahi mahi sandwich are both good, too. Now, if you have the room and are in the mood for a sweet treat, do yourself a favor and taste the key lime pie! It is heavenly! Tart and sweet with a buttery graham cracker crust. On the down side, you usually will have to wait for a bit to be seated. Don't come if you're in a hurry. If you can manage to sit at the bar or on one of the stools at a cocktail table near the bar, you can order appetizers (spinach dip, anyone??) and drinks before you are seated.

Ok, I think I should eat there before I comMent. But, here it is. I met a friend there for literally I think 10 minutes. My best friend and I just walked in, I think by default..but my guy friend end up having to wait in line. Once, we were in, it was loud and extremely packed! So, I asked my friends, what they thought..most said...nice atmosphere...but somewhat expensive. Nevertheless, they said the food was good... and drinks somewhat expensive. I probably wont go there, unless someone pays. =) hehe haha hoho

Great quality food and very charming and cozy environment. They have the best smoked salmon I've ever tried and surprisingly amazing sushi rolls. If you are a fan of good burgers and want to try something special, order the Hickory burger, you will not be disappointed. Well priced for the excellent service received.

Been here several times... this time ended up at Houston's after watching a play at the Miracle Theatre and searching for a good dinner place after 10pm. One thing I'll say is -- I've always hated how limited the menu is. Ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Pretty basic, good burger. I've been on a burger tour of South Florida lately, so I'm a tad snobby... but at that hour, I was just looking to eat something that wouldn't cost me $25! ... so the $14 burger had to do. Always a reliable choice, and a nice end to a fun date night on the Mile, although you won't find me here on a regular.

I gave been going to Houston's for. 20 years I lived in Atlanta and moved to Miami 6 years ago I liked it so much that I trek 12 miles to coral gables once on a while Then they changed the name to hllstones Didn't know why Last night I found out its not the same they changed the food. I had the hamburger smaller than before more lettuce and less meat They destroyed it Why mess with success? Won't go back one Houston's left farther but that's where I'll go

Whoever has gone to Houston's and not enjoyed their meal, please read and perform the following directions carefully. 1. Get dressed. 2. Get in your car and drive to Houston's. 3. Circle around for parking because the valet at their miracle mile location sucks. 4. Go inside, grab a table. 5. Order yourself a "Famous French Dip Au Jus" 6. Eat. It may look very large- but you can do it! 7. Go back home. 8. Log on to yelp. 9. Take back that review! Sure- the french dip that is my favorite meal there is overpriced ($17) but it is so damn good that I don't care!!! Their drinks are super stiff and their service is usually great. Not bad for a chain restaurant and perfect for a quick lunch.

This pseudo-hip chain appears to have been designed by an evil genious capable of tricking unsophisticated South Floridians into thinking that they are eating quality food when it is actually mediocre at best. The decor is nice and the food is edible, but the service is subpar and the food is not nearly good enough to justify the prices, yet the place seems to have a lot of customers. It's as if people say: "Well, it looks like a nice place, there are a lot of people here and the prices aren't cheap, so the food must have tasted better than I thought." By the way, I saw Alonzo Mourning in there once, so I guess that's something. It still didn't make the food taste any better though.

Houston's is a good restaurant. Period. Every time I've gone here except for once it has been for lunch, so I've never really done the whole appetizer-entree-dessert thing, but I've ordered just about everything off the sandwiches menu and each one was delicious. I've also had the filet, which was quite good, and I even enjoyed their key lime pie, which is saying something, since key lime pie normally doesn't do it for me. The service is good--everyone knows what they are doing. The only drawbacks are that it's usually pretty crowded at night (which is why I don't even try going there for dinner) and I found it to be a bit too expensive to eat there all the time. And, as some other people have pointed out, the clientele is usually... well, interesting. I say interesting because some people like dolled up middle aged housewives and too-cool-for-work businessmen types, some people don't. I really don't care either way, because I go here to eat, not to hang out and meet people, and it's not like you have to have to talk to the people around you in the restaurant.

Warning for the consumer: Don't order sushi at a steakhouse. Warning for the establishment: Stick to what you know. I've been to Houston's once and ruined it for myself. Prior to eating here, I always saw Houston's as one of those mega-chain quality restaurants where you end up HAVING to go at least once in your life whether it's for a birthday dinner or a douche-y date. Well, to begin - I am not a fan of burgers. Never liked them. But I love my sushi. So when grudgingly have to attend a birthday dinner here, I was relieved when I saw they had some sushi dishes. BIG mistake. I ordered what seemed like a sampler, with four kinds of rolls. What came to the table looked pretty decent and I felt so good about what I was about to eat as I sneered at my burger and fry-eating friends. All I have to say is - who puts MACADAMIA NUTS in their sushi rolls?! I've been to uber fancy sushi restaurants and have tried some experimental shit, but never have I placed a single sushi roll in my mouth and expected the crunch and taste of macadamia nuts. I fared no better with the other rolls in my "sampler". There was only one that was half-decent (may have been the California roll), so it was like eating in a mine field. For those obviously not choosing the sushi dish from their menu - the wait sucks quite a bit. Dinner on a Sunday = 2 hour wait for us. Worst of all? They would not seat an 8-person party because only seven of us were actually at the restaurant. NOTE: All members in your party must be in attendance. Got 20 people coming and only 19 of you are there on time? Forget about it. I'm serious.

I had dinner last night at an old stand by when visiting Coral Gables. There are many restaurants in the Miami/Coral Gables area that people would say are better, but Houston's is always very consistent. Last night I had the tortilla soup (highly recommend you order this if you are there on a Thursday). Based on the recommendation of the waitress, I ordered the double cut pork chop, which was probably the best pork chop dinner I have ever had. The Coral Gables Houston's is a well managed restaurant with great servers. I highly recommend a visit.

The food was excellent and consistent with the ohther Houston's througout the U.S. The prices were average and the customer service was outstanding. I would definitely go back again.

I have been to Houston's many times, for lunch and dinner. I have never eaten a bad or even mediocre meal here! Tonight was no different! Being a huge fan of dirty martinis, I ordered one at the bar as we waited for our table; of course, I chose the Rocquefort stuffed queen olives (if you order the regular queen olives, they aren't stuffed with pimientos, which I would say is the default). The restaurant was fairly loud (more than usual) due to a party of some sort. I brushed this off even though I find it ironic that they request that all mobile phones be turned to silent mode in the dining room, but I digress! Honestly, I have never had sushi or sashimi at Houston's, though I am sure it is perfectly flavorful. I usually opt for the filet mignon, sizzled rare or at most, medium rare with a baked potato on the side... call me old fashioned but that's their specialty in my opinion. In this respect, tonight was different: I eschewed my status quo, selecting the burger instead... and it was maybe the best burger I've had! With burgers, because it is minced meat, I prefer them to be cooked medium (not a fan of steak tartare). Of course, it has the steak fries which are fantastic, though this time, they were not as hot as I would have liked them; the crispiness was there in spades though! I guess I was not as hungry as I thought: I left no space for dessert; though the key lime pie is one of my favorites at Houston's.

Was interested in what changed since the "name change" from the widely acclaimed Houston's to Hillstone. Well I'm glad to report that nothing has changed. Still busy, still a bit expansive, and still delicious food. Pros: 1) The bartender made us some stiff drinks while we waited for our table. 2) The smoked salmon appetizer was perfectly cooked. The salmon was a nice think piece with that great smokey taste on the outside. I don't exactly know what the dip was but it went well with the salmon - not too overpowering or tartar sauce-like. 3) The deviled eggs appetizer - well, how much can be said about deviled eggs? They were good but had too much parsley on top. 4) The house-made veggie burger - this was better than expected (didn't like the lettuce or tomatoes on it so I just took it off) and the thin cut fries were good (I put them on the burger) 5) The Roasted Prime Rib with a baked potato - it was originally 14oz but they let you order additional ounces ($1 per oz) so my bf ordered 20oz total. It was good and cooked well (like it medium) but the outskirts of the steak were a little hard and over seasoned. 6) Our server was professional and personable. The overall service was friendly and knowledgeably. Cons: 1) Way too stuffed for dessert.

i have a love/hate relationship with houstons! the drinks are awesome, really big and strong, but pricy. at least you get what you pay for here (unlike so many other miami places) the food is good (def not cheap), but not the best ive ever had. the ribs are awesome and the spinach dip is one of my favorites. the sushi is always fresh and they have a coconut shrimp roll that is to die for. the wait on any given day is ridiculous, i mean 4 ppl should not have to wait 1 hour on a weeknight. but obviously houstons is doing something right if it so crowded 7 days a week, lunch or dinner, since it opened years ago.

people like this place. i almost don't have to say anything about it since the gathering in front of the door asserts the fact. It is always packed and usually with well dressed pretty people. i had a salad with large pieces of perfectly cooked beef. i was more elated than if i had a lap dance. the service was on point; though nothing like people rave about. it is midwest service. haha.. miami service is lousy because the entitled south american attitude wears servers out.. overall a menu i would care to explore more thoroughly in the future.

Favorite restaurant!! Love the atmosphere, love the service!! Mike is awesome!!! The ribs!! Yum!! Lemon drop martini! Yuuummm!!! And tres leches for dessert!!! I cant believe a place like this would make me look forward to sides such as cole slaw( which is SOO DELICIOUS!!) and fries! (crunchy, thin, and so full of flavor!) Love this place!!

The Alex H. review is spot on. Good food, but overpriced. Decent service, but not memorable. Long waits unless you get lucky. That being said, the one item that was very memorable was the key lime pie. It is without question the best key lime pie I have ever had.

First of all it will always be Houston's to me ;) We eat here at least once a week. The menu is limited but complete. I'm obsessed with the Chicken Salad, the Pressed Sushi Roll & the Hamashi Sushi Roll. They are delish! So fresh & flavorful. On Sundays they have the Onion soup that is an absolute must! Oh & of course the Spinach dip is incredible! The service is impeccable. There's a reason we are regulars here!

Me and my friend Terena were visiting our friend Nina in Miami and were having a great time on our food crawl (yuca frita, cafe cubano, croquetas, oh my!). We were completely stuffed, but Nina forced us to get some of her favorite key lime pie, at Houston's. I was skeptical, but you don't have to twist my arm THAT hard to get me to eat key lime pie. =) So we drove over to the Miracle Mile and sat outside, because it was really fricken cold inside - musta been pumping the AC (bring layers!). The pie was amazing, particularly the crust. I swear it had coconut and nuts and something else in it. So cracktastic! And the key lime pie filling was creamy and you could taste the actual fresh lime in it. I'd go back just for the key lime pie. And if I dine there and enjoy it, it'll get all my 5 stars!

What's the big deal about the food and service. I am not talking about happy hour or the meat market pick up. Let's just talk about lunch. Very expensive and very average. Food quality nothing magnifico, a french dip, good au jus, good prime rib, horesradish sauce was bland, amount of meat in sandwich about like a quarter pounder, french fries, the really skinny over fried blah sticks. At 20 bucks, I rather go to Mortons across the street. On the service, they use the let's have one person take your order, one person bring your food, one person grab the empty sweek and lo pack from the table, one person to fill the water, and another to bring the check. Nothing personal, but it is so impersonal. A 3 dollar glass of iced tea. A burger is 15 dollars. The place was packed so I guess some of you out there like this pricey fancy fast food place, but I see nothing to tickle my toes and no reason to return.

If you enjoy great food and great service this is the place to go. I think it's pretty cool how they don't go around yelling your name when your table is ready. They simply take down your name and what you are wearing and come look for you when your table is ready. The service is always exceptional. If you had a drink at the bar, they take it to your table for you. If they see you haven't drank your martini in a while, they switch it for you to a colder glass. It's the little details that they really pay attention to. I can go on but you get my drift. The burgers are great. The spinach dip is also exceptional. I highly recommend this place. The prices are pretty reasonable and worth it.

Let me begin by saying Hillstone is Houston's, Houston's is Hillstone. Nothing about this restaurant has changed but the sign above the door. Let the servers tell you what they want but the reason some locations now carry the Hillstone name is because Hillstone is the parent name of the company, and has been since 1976. The new name dawns only the flagship stores within this company's brand, Coral Gables being the best nationwide. Having said that, Hillstone is also the name of a vineyard in Napa Valley owned and operated by the family that runs this great company. This place has been a dynamic example of greatness in restaurants, and has set the standards for so many others nationwide since I was in diapers. "1980's" This specific location is led by an amazing management team led by an executive general manager who is highly respected in the company, as well as this city in particular. Hillstone in Coral Gables is a great place to begin an eventful evening, any night of the week. You will, most times, wait for a table, but in the end, after a cocktail at the bar, it will be worth it. Service is on point, food is consistent, and the ambiance is fitting for the city. The "French Dip Au Jus" is a must have. Seriously. Eric Statzer Eric Douglas Statzer

Not only have I always loved this place but as of recently I love it even more ; ). Anyway, definitely order the spinach dip. It is a must when coming here. I also recently tried the smoked salmon with Melba toast which was also really good and worth ordering. The sushi is fresh, the sandwiches are great and the crab cakes are delicious. The salads are great, If you have room for dessert try the warm brownie nut thing, it's to die for.

Most horrible experience. Manager incompetent and rude as some of the bar stuff. Used to like the place. Also writing to the corporate office. Manager brought a cop in tow since we said to the rude bartender that we wouldn't have ordered a drink if we would have known we cannot sit on a bar stool anymore at the bar front. After sitting there for an hour already. She asked us if there was an issue??? With the cop next to her. We thought we were in a bad movie. Never again. What an attitude

1 hour + wait...decided to sit at bar, with Tony. Excellent service, not rushed. enjoyed the atmosphere, great people watching spot at bar. Had my favorite smoked salmon appetizer, to par as usual...YUM ! Great evening with my BF. Had tuna roll and swordfish per recommendation from Tony, the bartender. Ask for him...finished off the evening with an espresso martini, which turned out to be a hit at the bar! Perhaps a new standard at Houstons ? Yeah, the place is busy, but, expecting this, you can chill at the bar, and surprisingly, having dinner at the bar is an enjoyable time !

Hillstone (formerly Houston's 'till the company decided it made so much money it had to be upgraded to their flagship brand) Is dependable and always high energy. Large well made martinis and always a great NY Strip. Dependable and waiter Eddie Leclair makes it fun.

Very much like all the other Houston's throughout the United States. This Houston's is busy, comfortable, and serves well prepared American food. After my experience with the sushi at the Houston's in Boston, I avoided it here. I'll let someone else review that. The salads, and hamburgers were very good.

We both got the chicken tortilla soup which was also good. My salad was alright but then again i was pretty full from everything else. Great atmosphere and the entire place is booth seating which i loved! Great place and a must try.

Good food, but remember it is a chain restaurant so the grading standard is always lower. Wine is substandard but drinkable. The only reason besides the food that makes it worth coming back to is people watching at the bar on the weekend, around lunch or just before dinner. People watching here is like a Miami Vice video game--obvious drug dealers, medical insurance defrauders, straight bloaks from "dah 'hood" dressing up to spend half a month's rent check, and a few honest John's in the upper middle class enjoying a meal or a drink. There are a few cool people too but you must search for them for sure; I've been lucky. Service at the tables is solid and reliable. At the bar it is sporadic, slow, even when there are few people sitting at the bar, and somewhat wet when it is crowded and drinks are splashing back on you with a lot of noise. Sometimes you get a nice, hot, steamy towel before the meal but most often you are lucky if they even say hi when you sit in front of them. They need twice the number of bartenders. However, the bar is the best place to watch the Miami Vice freak show. Be prepared to see children sitting at the bar. I know. WTF, right? Children listening to adult, very adult conversations at the bar. A few of the bartenders are sharp. A few need to be fired. Short blond female. Fire her. Desserts--not fresh. Microwave-reheated sheisse. Sad. I can do that at home. Next time I will not be so lazy and walk to another restaurant.

I don't understand all the hype. While waiting for our table we had a couple of mojitos at the bar and I have to say they were very good but it took forever to get them. We sat and waited a while for the server. We ordered some mixed sushi plate (it was small and average). I had to ask for the specials and they were definitely not described very well, as my flat iron steak came topped with a chimichurri sauce filled with hundreds of chili seeds and chili peppers. I can't eat that. I'm allergic. I wish she had told me about the sauce or they had put it on the side. So they took it away and by the time they brought it back, my friend was pretty much finished with his New York Strip. My steak had no sauce this time but it look like it had been washed and warm up. Yep. It look like the same meat to me. I could not taste any chili so I ate it. We had the tres leches dessert and it was very good. All in all, very expensive (over $140 plus tip). If I ever go back I might try a salad. They looked very big and yummy. I was still hungry after my meal. But who knows, I might not go back.

I can never get enough of this place. A group of us almost always start off the night by coming here & every time it's as memorable as the previous times. The service is superb & the food is wonderful for being a chain business. The crowd is different which I enjoy. Most are professionals that work in the area. One thing I've begun to notice are the sabertooth women who go almost every weekend & try to snag some young meat so they can pay their tab. I just hope that won't be me one day LOL. Oh & it's nice running into Daisy Fuentes or A Rod once in awhile..Yum!

I hate to admit it but Houston's is like a second home. Friends joke, they'll have to swing by Houston's to see me and they are not too far from the truth. This location, the most profitable one in the chain is full of activity Monday through Sunday. Here, it's all about ATMOSPHERE! Yes, I have visited during all days of the week, whether it be lunch, a business meeting or a drink with a friend there is always most likely a wait. If you are simply visiting for happy hour, then Wednesday is the best night. Otherwise swing by any day and try the burgers. I personally like the veggie. Though it falls apart, its worth every bite even if it means scooping it up with my fork. You can also opt for a huge good tasting salad, like the much-loved sashimi tuna. The spinach dip and smoked salmon, or sushi appetizer are all good starting choices. If you are not hungry, the fairly decent wine list might entice you. Then again, there is the bar. If you are feeling chatty or friendly dare to hang out by long enough and meet some interesting locals and maybe even me.

One of my all time favorite restaurants. I have been here dozens of times and I have never had an average meal. I really miss this place since moving to Chicago. It is not too often that you can go to a restaurant thirty times and never have a bad meal. Service is always top notch. The sushi is great for a non-sushi place and the steaks are better than Fleming's down the street.

Today, my boyfriend and I went up to Orlando to spend the weekend in Disney World with his friend Jorge and girlfriend, Lulu. Although the parks here are great, finding good food in the Orlando area can be a challenge (both inside and outside the parks). Not even a Google search can solve this food dilemma. I Googled "best places to eat in Orlando" and the search engine put Perkins on the top 20 list. Really, a chain pancake house qualifies as a city's top dining option?!? My thoughts: what is this World coming to, and YUCK!! Driving around on the main drag (International Drive) until you find something isn't an option either, unless you're okay eating some variation of fast food that is. Sure, you can find the world's largest Checkers (which they proudly boast on their sign) and the McDonalds with the largest playroom in America, but chances are that your not going to want a burger after all the greasy amusement park food you've eaten during the day. However, if you are a buffet lover and "all you can eat" is your kind of thing, then International Drive will have you moaning in ecstasy because they have managed to make every kind of cuisine into a buffet style--typically for less than $11.99 per person! However, we did realize that chain restaurants would be unavoidable in Orlando, so our plan was simply to find the nicest chain. We got lucky and found out that there was a Houstons about 20 minutes away from International Drive, where our hotel was. Houstons is an upscale, relatively small chain restaurant, owned by the Hillstone Group. My boyfriend and I go to the one in Coral Gables all the time and we were ecstatic to find one just outside Orlando. We all agreed that it was the prettiest Houstons any of us had been to, complete with outdoor patio seating that overlooks a lake. The food at Houstons does not resemble that of a chain restaurant. In fact, I never even knew that Houstons was a chain until very recently. My favorite thing on the menu (so good I've only ever ordered one other thing) is the Famous French Dip Au Jus. It is the most perfect thing that I have ever tasted. Slowly roasted prime rib, sliced thin and piled high on a house made french roll...I'm salivating now at the thought of it. It is served with a mug of hot and salty au jus for dipping, and a mountain of golden shoestring fries. If this sandwich is not served in heaven, then quite frankly, I don't care to go. The only time I have ordered something other than the french dip, was because my boyfriend told me that I had to try something else on the menu to give the restaurant a more complete review. So I ordered the Thai Steak and Noodle Salad, which has your choice of marinated filet or rotisserie chicken with avocado, mango, and herbs in a Thai dressing. It was very good and flavorful, but obviously not quite as satisfying at the french dip. I have since then remained loyal to my favorite sandwich, and of course had it tonight! The other must have at Houstons is the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, which is served gooey and hot in a crock with a side of tortilla chips. Additionally, they give you homemade salsa and sour cream to enjoy the rest of your chips once the delicious dip is gone. If you go in a group and order this as an appetizer, be prepared for the awkward moment that will inevitably arise when the chip pile gets down to about 2 or 3 chips. This dip is so good that no one will just passively sit back as the last couple are eaten, so there will be an uncomfortable moment when 4 people reach for the last chip and the don't back down to offer it to the other person. You might just have to flip a coin to decide who gets it... Also very good at Houstons are the Barbecue Pork Ribs and the House-made Veggie Burger. My roommate, who is a semi-vegetarian--I say semi because she makes exceptions for the Crunch Wrap Supreme at Taco Bell around 4 am--swears that this is the best Veggie Burger to be had and orders it as often as I order my french dip! On top of the great food, Houstons also has impeccable service. The wait staff is all very experienced and professional (aka no teenage, or even college student, waiters). You will never have an empty glass, no request is too much, and your food is always brought out piping hot! GO TO HOUSTONS!

I would probably give this 5 stars, but it is a chain and I just have a hard time giving a chain 5 stars. I can't ever seem to order anything here besides the chicago style spinach dip and the veggie burger. I always look at the menu but these are the 2 things that always come out of my mouth when its time to order. I remember trying the dip in college and its still the best spinach dip i have ever come across. i love the veggie burger because it at least has some style. i hate the bland boca burger or morningstar farms burger that so many places serve up. this one is delicious and with my addition of their wonderful shoestring fries on top of it, its even better. service at the bar - where i always eat - is top notch too. my water never sits empty. so like i said its probably real close to 5 stars, but the chain thing has me hesitant.

If you've never been to Houston's let me try and fill you in on some things to make your visit pleasant and set you're expectations correctly. First, the place is pretty much always packed so expect to wait. Second, its pricey. For some the place is worth it, for others its not. If you can't handle it, try Taco Rico on US1. For like 5-6 bucks you'll have one hell of a meal. And please don't bring your "cute" dogs. If you want to parade your dog for the world to see, Lincoln Rd is that way...There are no outdoor tables. Those "tables" you see outside, they aren't service tables...that's part of the waiting/happy hour area. You can tell because the tables are so tiny, that you really only have room for drinks. In fact they can barely hold one of their food plates. How anyone could possibly think they could eat on them is beyond me. As for food recommendations, go with the house favorite, the Spinach Dip. Its the right blend of spinach, artichokes and cheese. And if you like sour cream, mix some in there too as I doubt you're counting calories. As for the sushi, well you should know better. To this day I'm still puzzled as to why they even serve it. It just seems so out of place, maybe its just me. If you like fish, go with the pan fried fish (it's always Snapper, but ask anyways). While I'm not a huge fan of Prime Rib, for some reason I really like the way it's cooked here. Its just seems very different compared to most other restaurants. In fact, this is the only place I order it regularly. Make sure to ask for a bone-in cut. If you're there for lunch or are just in the mood for a sandwich version, go with the French Dip. As for the sides, go with the fries. They're nice, thin and delicious! The loaded baked potato is pretty good too, but I just can't resist the fries. As for desert, you have to try the brownie. Yes I know, you see a brownie dessert everywhere. But trust me on this one. If there is only one brownie dessert that you ever order, this is it. One last thing, the place is loud and nowhere near romantic, so if your significant other happens to be against going there for say Valentines or your Anniversary, take that as a hint. It's not that they don't want to eat there because the food sucks, its just that you're pretty much killing the mood by picking such an anti-romantic restaurant. You might as well be taking him/her to Dave and Busters.

Big wait time, pretty expensive and a NASTY Thai noodle salad (glad I stuck with a burger). My girfriend got this salad and I told her not to! My burger was a little more Medium than I would like since I always ask for my burger medium-rare so I am almost promised a perfect medium everytime. The spinach dip was ok as well as my burger. It just took so long to sit down that I grew tired of this place before it began.

Houston's is always a solid choice wherever you are in the country but for some reason, this particular Houston's has a rocking happy hour scene on weeknights. I have to say that this place is cougar central and it's a true meat market for all singles. I've been to other Houston's from NYC to LA and it does not match the energy that this place has. Ok, the food is great but part of the reason why you are coming to this one particular spot is for the scene.

BAD SERVICE !! Waited a long time at the table to finally be noticed and was given an attitude speach when reflected on the tip "level".. To me, too much buzz for lack of one of the most important things in a restaurant, besides the food: "The importance of customer service and attention".

I can safely say I've been to nearly every Houston's in the Southeast at one time or another...or at least it feels like it. This one is in the top two. Just 'feels' comfortable and welcoming, well run, with a chic classy vibe. Even at it's most busy times it's not chaotic. The sushi bar is very good, quality sushi... And of course all other food done as you would expect. Yet what strikes you about this one, see if you notice it, the staff, all of them, smile. Someone is caring about that...and more should take that cue.

I don't understand the fascination with this place. From the outside it looks like it should be better than what it is: dressed-up chain food done badly. Best dish in the house is the spinach and artichoke app...'nough said.

I just had the most amazing meal, the vegetable platter with Mi Sueño Cabernet. Claudia was our server and she was efficient and polite. The entire restaurant was packed. Love this place.

I'm still really amazed every time I drive by here at how crowded this place gets. The food is okay but they need more variety and it's not worth it for what you'll be spending. I dont understand why it's so popular because it's clearly overrated.

Always great service and good food. A bit overpriced, but largely worth it. For the same price, you can eat better at a Mortons or Smith and Wollensky, but I have never had anything but a solid meal here.

Perpetually crowded. Noisy. Meetup type of place. Part of a restaurant group. i.e. think also Bandera's. Consistent food, but mostly come for the see and be seen type of setting.

i'm not usually a fan of chains... but i actually really like houston's. the foods always consistently good. especially the fish and steaks. my absolute favorite thing on the menu is the 'FRENCH DIP AU JUS' with french fries. i think it might actually be one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. the staff is also super attentive which is a plus. now some words of wisdom... -they don't take reservations- so be prepared to wait -plan on going off-hours- so you don't have to wait -bring some cash flow- cause this stuff ain't cheap (especially w/drinks) -it's noisy. the acoustics suck. period.

Fellow Yellers - you rarely do this, but you really let me down on this one! Hillstone does not take reservations, so you must go and wait. Luckily our wait was only about 30 minutes. We ordered the spinach dip at the bar but ended up getting it on the way to our table. The spinach dip was very bland and not worth the price at all. While eating it I finishd my water and set my glass on the edge of the table. Someone came by and took it but never returned. In the mean time my husband kept eating it (well being pregnant I made him stop so I could have some too whenever I was able to quinch my thirst with some more water, although it was great I was starving!). While waiting for the water 4 people came to clear our spinach dip - which was not empty! I kept saying I was waiting on water but no one would bring it - but they somehow had enough time to try to clear the spinach dip - very irratating. I finally got water while telling our waitress about the situation who came to take our order a good 15 minutes after we sat down. I ordered the Hawaiian style steak with green beans. the steak was good, crusted in brown sugar and pineapple, but the cut of meat was very fatty, I think I was only able to eat about half of it. The green beans was actually more than green beans it had potatoes and some crushed olive dressing that coated all the vegetables. It might have been good but I had olives - I had no way of know ahead of time it would have olives, the waitress only descibe the option as green beans! My husband ordered the prime rib with stuffed baked potato. Both were better than my meal, but nothing spectacular. Definetly not worth the price. So we had 1 beer, 1 water (some of the time), spinach dip, and two steak entrees and our bill after tax and tip was over $100. Very over priced in my opinion for the poor service and low quality of food we encountered that night!

I always marvel at what makes a restaurant survive and what doesn't. Houston's definitely has the ingredient needed to survive. I come here often with friends or my boyfriend and we have a good experience 99.5% of the time. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. It is always packed and the wait time can be anywhere from 10 to 35 minutes. The food is great, the drinks are great and the seating is comfortable. Believe it or not there is music in the background, but most of the time it is very difficult to hear. It is packed with ambiance, which is probably why it is so successful. This place will continue to be a regular hangout for me since the food is always good and the service is usually good (99.5% of the time). The coconut shrimp roll makes a nice appetizer to share with friends, if you order one of the meat dishes try the cauliflower vegetables, they are to die for and the Tres Leche dessert is beyond orgasmic. Yummy. Eat, drink and be merry.

Came here with a friend during my trip to Miami last week. Food was very tasty and well presented. Service was a bit spotty however. Server was initially always standing by to take our order or assist with anything but later disappeared and did not return until she delivered the check. Atmosphere is very nice, and location is great. Will return next time I am in Coral Gables.

I have been to Houston twice since I wrote this so i will put both reviews into one. The service was quite awesome they are very attentive friendly David was my waiter both times and he rocked. The Mojito there is one of the best in South Florida I've had. For an appetizer our waiter, David suggested the coconut shrimp roll. OK I am not a fan of Sushi actually i avoid it at all cost. I said i don't think so the seaweed makes me gag. He assured me this roll would not , "it really good trust me you'll like it". Wow was he right this was absolutely scrumptious. It doesn't taste like seaweed (because its wrapped in soy paper) and the shrimp is very much cooked, It was so good I ordered it again on the second trip. It is a must try by far. I ordered a burger the first time I was there if you know me you know I love burgers OK this was possibly the worst burger Ive had ever which is what bumped them down a star . The hickory burger yeah not good I strongly don't recommend it. The second time around i learned my lesson I ordered the center cut filet with a loaded baked potato. Awesome they make a awesome baked potato. It is on the pricey side. Hello folks it the Gables but the steak and service is worth it . For ppl trying to save some cash go for drinks and an appetizer I hear the Coconut shrimp roll is awesome :)

I have eaten at Houston's about once a week since it has opened. It is not the best food in town but it is consistently very good. The service that I receive is great, probably because everyone knows me, but I never hear any complaints from the people eating around me. I generally order one of the fish dishes. They cook their fish very good. Their vegetables are always seasonally fresh and they usually have choices that you never find at other places, ie: Brussels sprouts (surprisingly good), roasted beets (also good), string beans w/ olives and goat cheese, roasted artichokes (wow, are these good), roasted peppers, etc. Their burgers are great, it is the only place I will eat hamburgers since they butcher and grind their own meat, they don't buy hamburger in big pre-ground bags or patties. The french fries suck. The sushi is so-so. The red beans and rice are great (Mondays only). The wine list is very good and the drinks are large. Their Cuban coffee is surprisingly good (puts most of the Cuban restaurants in Miami to shame). The prices are high but the quality of the ingredients is excellent.

i went there two times and the impression was the same. only a fashion place. the place is beautiful but very noisy, customers pratically eat at the same table, the service is very slow and the menu selection is very poor... like the food. the place is always full and people fight for a table and i don't understand why... oh, yeah, i forgot... fashion, that's it.

Great atmosphere, excellent service, fantastic food. I had the veggie burger and my friend had the fish sandwich. Both gigantic, both delicious. Our server recommended the Twenty Rows Merlot and it was outstanding. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

A.K.A Houston's. Great place to eat! for lunch, dinner, happy hour...More of a after work hang out spot during the week. Nice place for a date, friends, parents etc. Its always a bit too cold when i eat there, you have been warned. If you are under age, you cannot drink here they always swipe my I.D. here. One time my license was expired so they would not serve me!!(very strict) Food: Spinach dip is awesome, salmon toast is also excellent app. I have had the veggie burger and its good but not ammmazing. I used to order the cheeseburger and that was delicious highly recommend to the carnivores. I don't usually order salads at restaurants but their Thai salad is mouthwatering!!! must have you can have it with beef (which i recommend over the chicken) or ask them no meat if your an herbivore. Comes with the most amazing dressing and pieces of mango that you will not regret. their french fries are awesome as well and everyone loves them. skinny and small and absolutely one of my fav. french fries i have ever had. Top 3 for sure. The ribs are amazing if you want ribs order these. NY Strip is very good here too. i ordered sushi once and it was o..k they specialize in american food so i rather stick to that when i come here. Picky eaters will enjoy this place, and its a place where everyone can agree and have something to enjoy.

Everything I had here was AMAZING. You have to start off with the spinach dip it is by far the best I have ever had (I had to fight myself from eating it with a spoon). Then I had the french dip which I recommend to order with the rare lean meat as well as add some horseradish sauce. The dipping sauce for this sandwich was perfect and just thinking about it makes me drool. Finished the meal up with the sunday which was good but not exceptional like the rest of the meal. This may be one of my new favorite restaurants.

I have resisted Hillstone for 3 visits, but finally agreed as I knew my dad would love it. I was right, he loved it and I still don't get it's popularity here 100%. There are good booths which we had. My dad had a Hawaiian steak and I had a fish. Both were overseasoned, overpriced and underwhelming. Best part of the meal was the add on $6 salad. It was huge and had everything, but the kitchen sink- better than the $16 Swine salad otherwise would not return for the food with so many great options abounding.

This is a classic American restaurant! I have yet to find a dish that I havent loved. The appetizers are to die for - I recommend the spinach dip, warm toast (even if it's not on the menu you can ask). I am vegetarian and the veggie burger is very tasty. When I first got it, I asked the waitress if they gave me meat! The salmon is also amazing. It is crispy yet moist. The customer service is great and accommodating. Book a reservation early because it gets full fast!

So... It's been a long time since we don't go to this restaurant, and we don't think things will change.... Too crowded! Tables inches apart, no way to talk and no to get lost on the other peoples conversations! Food is good and pricey... But this is the kind of place you just want to go to be seen... So it only gets three stars as a restaurant from us... Sorry

Bring a coat, shawl, scarf - it is freezing at Hillstone. Superb food - very good service. We had the Thai Salad one with steak - the other with chicken - one of the best...very, very, popular place. Houstons and Hillstone are one in the same...who knew?

we started with the grilled artichoke and then we had Hawaiian Steak, Pan fried Sole and Grouper. It was delicious and I can't wait to go back. The servers were very professional and the Senior assistant Faith was very attentive. We had ordered drinks from the bar before being seated at a table, our server knew what we had when it came time for an additional because she had checked.

I had made a reservation for Wednesday night at 8 pm. As soon as I got there it was fully packed. Checked in with the host and she told they would come find us when the table was ready. Had to wait about 25 mins after checking in at 8. It was extremely crowded and loud at the entrance by the bar. Now the food and service. Never had I have had bad food from Hillstones. I highly recommend the grilled artichokes. Although they are not on the menu, you have to just ask your server for them, they come grilled and seasoned perfect which makes them a good snack while you wait for the main courses. We also had the tuna tartare which was good, I had the Hawaiian rib eye. The rib eye was a bit of both sweet and savory with the glaze they cook it in. My only reason for the three stars was the service. They took some plates away before we finished eating in which we told them to put the plates back on the table. Our waters stayed low for a while in which I stayed thirsty while eating. Overall I recommend to go on a day which is not too busy to enjoy the service and ambience. Food is always great no matter what day.

Ok ok I don't get it. The food was ok, to consider the food along with the prices, ya gotta be kiddin me! The food is ok, Ruby Tuesday's ok. But for the price, nah, no way, no value and the food does not come close to the price points. 60 Per person for what? Nothing unusual, nothing which stands out, zippo unique. I get it it. Its Coral Gables. BFD! The food is ok, for a chain like taste, for an atmosphere which is ok, chain like. oops it is a chain! But charging prices like its some amazing experience? Really? Tuna Tar Tar expensive but the highlight of the dinner Salmon - meh nothing great, plating sub par, small portion Ribs - Overly sweet, no better than TGIF's. Desserts pretty good. SWING AND MISS!

This is by far the best restaurant in the area in every aspect of the eating out experience. And I say this with extreme prejudice. I cannot think of one negative thing to say about this place. Although the menu item list is short, the selection is unique, tasteful, and elegantly presented. The atmosphere inside and out is absolutely unique and quite romantic. And the service is fast and extremely attentive. Remember, however, two things; First, everything is very pricey. Second, always make a reservation. You will be seated immediately.

Although I don't care for the happy hour here, I can easily say that if you want good service and good food, this place may just be for you. The bar area tends to be filled and at times trickling to the street, making it hard to get a drink, but the bar is definitely a scene for those who like to flaunt and be seen. I prefer the sit down meals here, the yellowtail was Devine and the place on an off night is romantic and serene. However, a bit pricey.

Although the last three meals were a bit more than disappointing (which isone of two reason why I gave and not 5 stars), this store shines not only because the food tends to be consistently good, but the service (from the hostess, to the servers and bartenders) oozes with the obvious fact that the staff clearly love their jobs. When deciding where to go, and there are many choices now in the Gables, the staff gives you a reason to come back--friendly, professional, well trained and ready to make sure each experience is the best it can be. Regulars know the staff by name, and regularly staff member come by and say hi, even when they are not serving you that particular evening Although drinks average about $13, which may seem high, the bartenders are generous with the pour, so on balance, the price is reasonable. The fact the bar is always packed is a testament to that value. When an issue came up with a meal, the managers did try to do back flips to try to get it right as they have the same helpful disposition as the staff. Recently, the restaurant started closing the bar at 11pm instead of 12. That has made it a little difficult to come or stay as long as one might. The may want to rethink this If there was a way to give a 4.8 rating, this is what I would have done.

Best steak EVER! I have never ate my steak without A1 sauce but this juicy, enticing steak didn't need nothing but my mouth! It's the BEST!. The service was EXCEPTIONAL from our arrival - from a 45min wait to literally 5min - to the waitress having insight on all the plates. Took her recommendation and it couldn't have been the best decision I made. Must go-to place if you're in Miami!!

My daughter and I looked for a restaurant X-Mas eve and chanced upon this gem. The service was very good, the food amazing and I was totally satisfied. The salad was served on a plate that was ice cold. It kep the salad crisp and amazing tasety! We will definitely go back.

I have always heard great things about this place and boy were they right! We made reservations for 10:30pm and only waited 5 minutes to be seated. The restaurant itself has a great layout and interior design. Our server was very attentive, polite, and took great care of us. We got the spinach dip to start (delicious), then ordered the filet...OMG talk about bursting with flavor! It was so tender and juicy, nearly blew my mind! A bit on the pricey side and limited selections but definitely worth coming back for more!

Your typical Houston's, although I have to admit it's confusing that it's called Hillstone, but still has Houston's on the door. What's going on with that? We sat at the bar for lunch on a Sunday because my husband had a hat on and gentleman aren't allowed to wear hats in the dining room. Odd for lunchtime but at least the hostesses were nice and consistent about it. If they had let one guy in with a hat I would've been on them so quickly, so I appreciate that. Our bartender was okay, nice enough and attentive. I had one of the best sushi rolls I've had in awhile- tuna, avocado, macadamia nuts, coconut, and wrapped in soy paper. Wow! Delicious, I could really go for one right now. The soy paper wrapping was really cool too. My husband had the French Dip and that was good as well. Not dry, plentiful, and the fries were good too. I still think Houston's is a little overpriced but you do get what you pay for.

Hillstone. I still call it Houston's. It's habit. Yes, it's a chain. Yes, it's a really great chain. Yes, it's one of my favorite restaurants. This place is really a staple in my mind. It's my go-to restaurant for lunch or dinner. Always packed with a great crowd of people no matter what time you go, and I'd say that's a good sign. It's consistent. I always know what to expect, and I always know that I'll leave satisfied. That's comforting. For something light (sort of, i get the buttermilk garlic dressing haha), i really like the traditional salad. At lunch, soup and salad is perfect. The spinach and artichoke dip (and the salsa that comes with it) is awesome. The BBQ ribs are some of the best ribs. The cheeseburger is one of the best burgers. I love the fries. The filet mignon is always a sure bet. I'd really like to know how the hostess always seems to find me when my table is ready after looking at me for a total of 2 seconds. Aside from the food, the service is wonderful. The entire staff is super professional, polite, and accommodating.

Power lunch? Check. Romantic dinner or drinks? Check. Happy hour with coworkers? Check. Celebratory meal? Check. Hillstone is a classy Gables landmark that never disappoints. The fact that you routinely have to wait 20-40 minutes for a table should be testament enough that you can't go wrong with this one. Even though the menu is pretty standard (and a little limited), the food is always exquisite, the staff is always on point and they serve the best dirty martinis in town. Don't miss their roasted artichoke appetizer and if you are a vegetarian, I seriously suggest you consider "cheating" for the night so you can indulge in one of their steaks.

Ok, I just realized yesterday that I had never been inside Houston's/Hillstone in the light of day. It looks so different! Anyhoo... The girls and I were feeling very "Sex & the City" so we decided to plan a Girls Dinner at Houston's. (I will continue calling it Houston's because calling it Hillstone just feels so WRONG!) We arrived at about 6pm last night and ordered a Madras from the bar. Yum- meee!! We were seated right away because although the restaurant was far from empty, it wasn't packed yet. We sat in a booth and were quite comfortable. I was really interested in trying the grilled artichokes as an appetizer but we decided to share the infamous spinach dip. Here's what we thought about: THE MADRAS (drinks): $12 Strong & Fabulous. My friends each had 2. I had one & then switched to my usual Dewars on the rocks $10. THE SPINACH & ARTICHOKE DIP: $13 Yum. Tasted very fresh and it was perfectly cheesy without being too much so. I (Carrie) decided to go with the Famous French Dip Au Jus $20 with the hand-cut fries. I was not disappointed. This sandwich had a MOUND of roasted prime rib. The meat was so tender & delicious! It was like buttah!!! The house-made French Roll was also perfectly soft and delicious. It was sturdy enough to hold up to several dunks in that delicious Au Jus. The fries are very thin & crispy. A perfect complement to the sandwich. Friend #1 (Charlotte) ordered the standard Cheeseburger $15 well done. The burger was perfectly cooked. Well done without being dry. It was delicious! I ate half of my sandwich & half of her burger. (Can you say FATTY??) Friend #2 (Samantha) ordered the Hickory Burger (Not sure of the price) medium well. It was topped with about 2-3 slices of Canadian bacon, shredded cheddar cheese and I honestly don't know what else. Again, it was cooked perfectly, and looked absolutely divine. I couldn't eat another bite or I would have tried her burger as well. lol Friend #3 (Miranda) ordered the Caesar Salad ($11) which also looked delicious! It was large enough to be called a meal. *** DISCLAIMER: Prices may be inaccurate. Although I was looking forward to dessert, I had absolutely no room left. Oh well, guess that means we will have to come back next week... Oh, Darn. *wink wink*

Houston's is one of my favorite chains across the country and this one in the gables is the best. Save room for the tres leches, it's top notch. Do not get a Bloody Mary from here, they are terrible.

By far the BEST overall restaurant/bar in Coral Gables! Exceptional food! Best priced wine list in town! The service is superb!! My husband & I dine at Hillstones (aka Houstons) at least 3 to 4 times a week. Lunch or dinner this place is always consistent. They are located in one of the best "corners" Miracle Mile has to offer. That corner is priceless. Nothing better than sitting in their outdoor area, drinking a glass of Duckhorn Sauvignon and people watching! All while enjoying the beautiful views Coral Gables has to offer. Unfortunately, I recently learned they have decided to CLOSE the outdoor area permanently!!! What on Earth are they thinking!?!? It's Miami!!!! Outdoor seating areas are prime property!! Up until now I thought their management team was stellar. But who was the inexperienced individual, who clearly must not be from MIA, that made this decision? And how could the current Restaurant Manager agree to this? Do you not know your local, and I must say, very loyal customers? I am completely devastated that us locals will no longer get to enjoy that beautiful corner of Ponce De Leon & Miracle Mile. Sadly we will have to find a new venue to enjoy wine and people watching outdoors. I suppose we will finally have to settle for the Brickell area, BrickTops or Seasons 52. Luckily, my husband & I will be visiting Napa in a couple of weeks. At least we will get to enjoy the outdoor areas at Rutherford Grill and the new R&D Kitchen. Both part of the Hillstone group. Both have outdoor areas that are priceless! Hope they haven't decided to close these down too! I hope management will reconsider their ridiculous decision. Otherwise they risk annoying a lot of very loyal customers and ultimately people will just find another place to gather. Sincerely, Susy V

When it used to be Houston's, I would come here quite often. Now that it is Hillstone, the quality of food has depreciated, while the price of food had gone up immensely. I still love the pork ribs & coleslaw, but not sure if it is worth driving from Broward. Service is remarkable!!

It doesn't matter it if is lunch or dinner, it is always very busy, and very very good! The drinks are good as well. I tried the sushi finally and I can honestly say it was some of the best sushi I've had in Miami. Never disappointed. Even better than the food? The service. The men and women that work here are incredibly professional and polite. As busy as the place get once your order is in you will get your food quickly. Plus they will come to see how things are going but not come by constantly and interrupt your meal/conversation. I just love this place all around for the great food and amazing service! Everything I ordered was absolutely perfect from the sushi, to the salad (the blue cheese dressing was to die for), to the steak. Everything was fresh and the portions were plenty. It was on the pricey side, but well worth the money...something for everyone ! love it! Happy Hours are awesome...! great atmosphere, good people, come enjoy any Friday after work =)

By far one of our favorite go-to places in the Gables. You'll always receive great food and good service. Prepare to wait though. This place, no matter the time of day, is always bustling with crowd. I've waited for lunch just as long as I've waited for dinner, and I've waited on a weekday just as long as I've waited for dinner on a weekend. The ribs are great, the burger is awesome. I recently tried their veggie burger and that was even awesome. My favorite dish is served only during lunch and it's their fried chicken sandwich (forget calorie counting for this one meal!). This is a great place for a hanging out with friends at the bar and having a great meal with company. (I rate it four stars due to the wait, but it's worth it! Plus you can always wait by the bar and have a few drinks.)

Being taken out by my family for Mother's Day, a treat! My first choices, Yuga and Christy's in the Gables, both closed. Strange...None of the four of us had eaten at Hillstone so we decided to try it. A 20ish minute wait. Not bad. Sat at a very little bar-area table, ordered drinks and asked how we'll know when our table is ready.. and was told they note and remember where everyone is sitting and will come to you to lead you to your dinner table. It worked! So nice to have truly lovely service from everyone, from the hostess to the several servers. Appetizers, dinners were excellent. We all shared an Asian steak salad resembling a small mountain, a couple fresh yummy and not the usual tempura fried coconut shrimp hosomaki rolls that came with an excellent remoulade dip as well as a spicy mayo dip. We nibbled on soft and cheesy bread slices, a very fresh tasting Cesar salad, an excellent well seasoned prime rib and a tremendous excellent veggie burger. Finished with one nice sized very creamy piece of Key Lime pie with four forks. A little pricy but lovely, good value, pleasant atmosphere Noisy when we walked in but after that we had no trouble talking to each other at our very comfortable booth.. Would like to go back and sample other noms.

I went here on a Friday night a few months ago. Met a friend for dinner. We were able to get a reservation. Very cool looking place. Pretty crowded, ambiance was great. Had a couple of drinks at the bar while we waited. Nice bartenders, as we were called to our table our server, offered to take my drink to the table. A little odd, but it goes to show what kind of service they provide. Very good service. Very helpful. We had the coconut sushi as an appetizer. Wonderful. As an entree, I ordered the prime rib with a loaded baked potato. It was incredible. My friend ordered the crab cakes. Very good. I had a really enjoyable experience.

I Love Hillstone (but I still call it Houston's)! I dine here quite frequently. My family and I eat here on NYE to end each year with a delicious meal. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries here also. Our most recent visit was on 04/15/13. My husband and I were celebrating our 9 year anniversary together. The crabcakes are my favorite, but they were out of season. I ended up ordering the ribs, which are also delicious. My husband tried the fried fish of the day and he really enjoyed it! The smoked salmon appetizer is also very good! And... They don't have a corkage fee! Which is awesome! The wine and drink list is excellent! The service is also amazing every time. Our last waiter was Danny (I think) he was great! Thanks Hillstone! See you soon :) Note: Men are not allowed to wear hats in the dining room (even for lunch).

Best. Veggie Burger. In town. Have that with their shoestring fries. Ask for some honey mustard with those fries and you are set. The Bacon Cheeseburger gets my vote, too. As does their Traditional Salad. And the pièce de résistance? The not-officially-on-the-menu-yet-always-offered Hot Fudge Sundae. French vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, candied nuts and... a friggin' gravy boat of Valrhona (I believe) hot fudge. Empty contents of gravy boat on top of your bowl of ice cream and oh my lord... heaven. They better not ever stop serving this.

Grilled artichokes, Prime Rib, and Key Lime Pie. Every item was perfect. It did take a little bit of time to come out, but all that anxiety was melted away with each perfect dish. We come here a lot, but the food was worth writing another review for today (we ate on Sunday).

Very friendly at the front. Helped us with change for the parking meters. Service was good. The food was great except the fries. Greasy and soggy. The pulled pork was amazing though. Wish the fries were better. Would have asked for new fries, but I was halfway through the sandwich before the server came back. Overall good lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon.

Oh dear. We have been going to houston/hillstone since 2008. Always good food...until recently. Today was one of those experiences: the steak was so salty we could not eat it. It was seriously oversalted. And the service blamed us; "next time order it without salt". REALLY? I had a salad and unfortunately that was also not what it was before. I want my Houston's back.

waited a long time for a table, but my fault for not making a res. it was worth the wait though. you pay a lot but it is good food. had the grilled artichokes to start, excellent, followed by the filet with cauliflower. all top notch, cooked just as I asked. as I say, pricey, but I don't think they do things by halves so you get good food and good service.

I like this place, it always has good atmosphere and comfortable zone. The steak here is great. Uhmm, if you go there during dinner time, and didn't take the reservation, like i always forget, you will need to wait for a long time. But there's a good cafe nearby so it helps killing time there. Better go with friends or on a date :)

HmmMm...Hillstone...i'm not really sure how to feel about you? For years I've heard people raving about Houston's. So naturally I was exited that I was finally gonna get to see what all the fuss was about. Sunday 4:30pm, party of 4, 45 minute wait really? Fast forward about an hour and were finally seated at our table. Yes now onto the menus. Maybe its me but the menu items seemed boring. Where are the mouthwatering descriptions to ignite the hunger in me?? Ok drinks, my mojito was good. Not great but at least it was strong $13 Spinach & artichoke dip - tasty enough but no real wow factor $13 Home smoked salmon - again it wasn't bad but barely memorable $15 Chili and chips -ehhh, this could have been cooked in a microwave $11 My Caeser Salad - fresh, crisp, no real complaints $18 my bf had the pan fried fish - AGAIN good but not great $25 Overall I feel like this place missed the mark. Nothing stood out, these plates could of easily been confused for any dish served at TGIFridays.

Bring back the shoestring fries!!!! I've been going to Houston's /Hillstones since it opened, why take good things off the menu???? You did it with the seared tuna salad fortunately you put it back. Please do the same with your fries. The new ones are neither shoestring nor "French " nor streak fries plus the taste isn't great either. Bring the shoestrings back or at least give us the choice of one or the other . You had 5 stars not anymore:(

I was there a couple of weeks ago and service was fantastic. However, in my opinion menu has not too many different meals and it's quite expensive. I've tried T-bone and it was great, so despite I can't choose too many meals and it's expensive I'll come back again.

My Hillstone experience started... in the bathroom. You can tell a lot about a place by the state of their restroom facilities, and this place was immaculate. Clean, shiny and fancy and I noticed an employee bringing in rolls of Charmin. None of that cheap single-ply crap here! Our server, John was absolutely adorable. He got excited and enthusiastically recommended the Farmers Market Vegetable Platter when I mentioned I was vegetarian. I had an inkling to try to veggie burger, but I couldn't turn down such a sincere suggestion. Turns out, those were some of the best veggies I've ever eaten, although I couldn't fit everything on plate into my stomach. There were 3 pieces of a veggie sushi, multi-colored cauliflower, cous-cous, shredded beets topped with goat cheese, plantains and sauteed spinach. The only thing I didn't care for were the plantains - they were not the Cuban-esque sweet kind that I will all but inhale. This is my friend's favorite restaurant in Miami and I trust her taste. She thoroughly enjoyed her Thai Steak & Noodle Salad. The place more expensive than what I'm used to, but the food and service are on par with the price. The only thing I can complain about is that the restaurant was frigid. We may be in Miami, but next time I'm dressing like I'm heading out to hit the slopes.

This place is sooo great that there is ALWAYS a long wait... at any given day at any time there will be people outside waiting. it's THAT good. I will wait any amount of time here to get my hands on their spinach dip...it's the very best !

One of my all time favorite places to eat. From the staff, to the interior space, the interior lighting, to the servers and of course the food, this place just gets it. All the time. We usually go there and have the same thing time and time again. The spinach dip, Hawaiian Ribeye, and the Tres Leches, which is by far the best anywhere in Miami. A gem of a chain, if you haven't been, you're missing out.

For obvious reasons, I'm not a fan of steakhouses, but after standing around at a grand opening event for a restaurant for a few hours that didn't provide nearly enough food (what?!), and finding out that the place whose fries my friend was craving was OUT OF FRIES, we ended up at Hillstone (formerly known as Houston's). The name has changed since I was there years ago, but that's all that's changed. It's still a little too loud and the wait for a table is still a little too long. Nevertheless, our server, William, was a sweetheart, and the veggie burgers are rockin! (As are the veggie rolls...and don't even get me started on the fries! YUM! Oh, and I think I saw at least one other vegan option on the menu!) Now I'm not saying that I really like this place or plan to go here often. However, I AM saying that its vegan options are a pleasant surprise. If you have omni friends and you want to eat a meal with them and you're in the area and the wait isn't too ridiculous, then for sure, check it out!

A great Venue to mingle, dine and be in a upscale atmosphere. Miracle Mile Location was great this Wednesday. My two favorites were the Salmon Appetizer with perfect Dill Sauce and Smoked Salmon on toast that was just amazing. And our bartender served me what was one of the most amazing Mojitos I ever had. Great night for me and my friends! Definitely make Reservations, or come by on Wednesday Nights for a great Happy hour. K.

I absolutely loved coming here last Saturday! An awesome atmosphere, really attentive staff and the food is fabulous. We started with the grilled artichokes, which were lovely and served with a sauce that's to die for. I had the Ahi Tuna Salad (I'd order this again and again and again..) and my boyfriend had the roasted chicken with tabbouleh (he loved it). We finished everything with the key lime pie - do yourself a favor and order that. It's the best key lime pie you'll ever have. One of the best dinners we've had! Can't wait to return.

This place has always been overrated. Hillstone/Houston's is nothing special. It's overpriced burgers, salads and sushi. I had the Ahi Tuna Salad....for $18 it was downright disappointing. There were 5 nicely cooked slices of tuna, but the salad was pathetic. A pile of mixed greens with a quarter of an avocado and and a quarter of a mango. That was it! That said, the service at Hillstone's is always impeccable. Skip it. There are way better places down the street. FYI- after work bar scene is cougar-town.

Hillstone was called Houston's before. It was actually always Hillstone if you ever bothered to look at your statement. Why the change? I don't really know.... But I love this place. I've had pretty much everything on the menu. So let me just list my favorites below: Starters: Rainbow Roll - I don't have the rainbow roll in any other sushi place. Why here? Because it's fresh! With real crab salad inside. Smoked salmon: not a fan of salmon but here you get a smoked salmon filet with small slices of toasted bread and tarter sauce that compliments the salmon perfectly. Soup of the day: they're all good! If that's what you're into... Crab cakes: a little expensive but it's jumbo crab meat and they don't cut you short - CRAB! lightly breaded and not many ingredients to cover up the amount of crab they're really giving you. Good stuff! Entree: The Cheeseburger! It's finger licking good... Literally. The fish of the day: I choose this when I'm in the mood for something fresh and light. It's very fresh and always perfectly cooked. Filet Mignon: it's a filet = good! Try the loaded baked potato with it. Tuna: They have a seared tuna salad with mango. Top secret stuff... It's not on the menu and it's delicious. Dessert: Tres leche - delicious hispanic dessert made better than most Hispanic places. Five nut brownie - good stuff! Belgian chocolate sundae - not on the menu and my favorite dessert of all time. You can literally drink the chocolate. It has the perfect balance of silkiness and sweetness... That's why you can drink it! I order extra caramelized pecans. Instructions: poor the pecans on the ice cream. Grab a spoon of ice cream with a couple of pecans and dip your whole spoon in the gravy bowl full of delicious chocolate. You can now die happily! Bottom line, these guys know what they're doing. Enjoy! Minus 1 star - they don't take reservations and the wait can be easily over an hour.

There are so many delicious items on this menu, you will have to keep going back for more! The spicy tuna role and artichoke dip were a delicious introduction to our meal. I ordered the Cajun Trout and it was amazing! The wine menu is impressive as well and there is a full bar. If you do not have a reservation then you will have to wait to be seated. Have a seat at the bar and have a drink while you wait for your table.

This place was great. Hip chick and guys, not a lot of clothing. It was a warm night, Heat was playing Indiana in yes, that game!! If your in Miami then this area and this place are a lot of fun. We had a blast! We'll surely go back. Steak and seafood were great, service great too!

I have been coming for years to both locations, and in the past had some obstacles. But as a bar scene its perfect! With great bar service and great friendly staff and good drinks. The dining room was good in the pat but i recently have been back and major improvement , major. This place is awesome , the food , haven't tried it all but being a beef fan i tried the french dip , which i had years ago here and it blows even their own sandwich away. So juicy and the bread perfect with Aujous hummmmm Now the steaks make sure you order it the way you want it,medium , rare etc.. The bake potato is the best in Miami , hands down , period. It is so delicious and well presented. The staff is friendly and the place is nice to eat in, very sheik! Kudos to the management in all of their improvements.

4.5 Stars, as I think they need more wines by the glass! Other than this, the atmosphere is great and the food was delicious. I went without a reservation, thinking I would have to wait forever, but was seated right after we began our drinks at the bar. The service was great, the food is of very very good quality. We had the Ahi Tuna Salad and the Thai Steak Salad, both amazing... Go check them out. :-)

Reservations please or at least call ahead.

I had the grouper with real lump crab meat and spinach or greens on the side. It was incredible! The bartenders and wait staff were very attentive and friendly. The key lime pie serving was more than I could eat and very fluffy like and awesome cheese cake. Get there before 7pm if you don't want to wait. They don't take reservations and they will not seat you until your entire party arrives. When we departed at 10pm, there was over an hour wait with people stacked up outside and in the foyer. Valet parking available for $8 just past the main entrance on the Miracle Mile.

I absolutely love Hillstone (formerly known as Houston's). I think the atmosphere is always fun at the bar, and the cosmos are soooooo good! I love that the hostesses remember you when your table is ready, vs. going around yelling your name. The service here is always impecable. Our server, nadine, was amazing! I was hesitant to try the side of beats with my seared tuna but she guaranteed they were delicious, and she was absolutely right. Other things I love here... the spinach dip, the smoked salmon appetizer, and the burgers. Keep it up Hillstone!

I was VERY disappointed the last time I dined at this restaurant. This used to be one of my favorite places to have a fabulous dinner. The burgers were always huge and amazing. The Hawaiian Rib Eye was also one of the bet steaks I have had in town yet this last time, both of those plates were very disappointing. The burger was small in comparison to the size it used to be and honestly it didn't have any spectacular taste that would set it apart as it used to. The Hawaiian Rib Eye was also reduced in size, it was dry, and when we asked for some more of its sauce, the waiter told us it wasn't possible to bring out which that was never the case before. I cannot believe this has happened to this wonderful spot but for the price of the food and the quality I experienced this last time, I don't think I will be returning for dinner any time soon unless some changes have been made to the better instead of to the worse.

Well some friends wanted us to join them at Houston's, We are NOT a fan of chain restaurants, But we decided to give it try. First we couldn't find it, ( LOL they changed their name). They we experienced poor service, poor food detail, a bad drink and found it very high priced. High price is not a problem if it is good. It is so amazing to see a busy place with so many faults. I guess in a busy city and good location any place and do business.

Sometimes I think that Houston's is the Denny's for the hip. IIt's not that I see the same people there, and order the same food, but I do see the same people there. And, just like Denny's, the Houston's business model works, the people are there. It does get crowded. That's really where the comparison ends. Houston's does serve a really interesting cuisine. Well, the wait for a table was about 30 - 45 minutes, but since we had a good seat at the bar, we chose to eat there, also the views at the bar were better. So my friend and I chose to stay in the show!I We also chose to split some appetizers and an entree. This was no problem with the bar staff, as it was just an extra plate. We had the grilled artichokes, spinach dip and we a split a rib eye. All was very good, but for an appetizer I especially liked the grilled artichokes, they were very flavorful and cooked just right. The rib eye was also cooked just perfectly, and large enough to split with out any additional hunger issues. Now, Houston's is a bit pricey, I couldn't make this a weekly hang out, also they don't dare go out of the box at Houston's, same menu, same time. Maybe they could add a few things, or the chefs could cook seasonal food. They cover the gamut, or Asian, Salads and Pub food. Never a change. I read Carla L. review and concur on her issue with the children. This really isn't a place for children, it ruins the fun at the bar. Although I don't concur with her recommendation of Texas De Brazil. I was able to comfortable leave Houston's at Texas De Brazil, please just role me out of there.

Our sweet waitress Stephanie recommended the fabulous 2009 Orin Swift Cellars "The Prisoner" Napa Valley Red Blend. The bottle was priced well and it was DELISH!!!! We started off with grilled artichoke. Which was exquisite due to the sauce, a mayo/chive/lemon concoction that made my feet tingle. I had the grouper topped with crab in a lemon sauce with spinach. The portion was smaller than I expected but probably a healthier for me anyway. The fish was a grilled and I loved the crab, it was probably my favorite part of the whole dish. My sexy date had the Prime Rib with Potato. I was a little envious so I ate some of his potato, I used the spicy horseradish as a dip and ate most of his baked potato myself. Overall I enjoyed my meal and definitely recommend dining on a weekday. Do not go during happy hour if you are hungry...unless your hungry for a liquid dinner!

I am totally mystified by reviews of this place that point to mediocre food and merely a scene. The great thing about Houston's is that it's a consistent chain. No matter what city the restaurant is in, it is always good and reliable. It is not intended to be a "fancy" restaurant, but merely a "stylish" restaurant with good food and service. The waits are almost always long because there are not very many restaurants like this - most that try end up going the way of The Cheesecake Factory - ew. The Coral Gables establishment meets the standard and fits in nicely on Miracle Mile. I would definitely return.

So after coming on Yelp & reading all the rave reviews, I decided to try this place. I went here last night (Monday) with my beau. The decor, atmosphere & feel of this place is GREAT. The food not-so-great. Sorry Yelpers. We started out with the spinach & artichoke dip which was just "okay". I have had better S & A dip at TGIFridays to be honest. Their nachos here at Houston's were well cooked & not too salty like the ones at Fridays. I ordered the hand filleted salmon with barley salad. Admittingly, I had no idea what barley was; the barley was okay but no real taste. The salmon smelled & tasted too fishy. I only had water & lime to drink. My beau ordered beer which he said was alright. Then after forcing him to order, he decided to go with the Florida Black Grouper which the waiter stated would have a "kick" to it due to the cajun spice. There was no kick & it tasted bland. We did not get desserts. I also have a feeling that if I were to order the veggie burger or plain burger, I would have been happier. But I am attempting to stay away from children's food & beef :-/ Hillston had okay customer service; very efficient in seating us even on what appeared to be a busy night. Overall, an okay place. I could have spent less for better service elsewhere though. And question, if this place is called Hillstone, why is the name "Houston's" still marked on the doors? Looks like they should have kept the name since people seem to identify with the Houston's brand more.

I am on the hunt for a good happy hour hot spot. So I met a friend at Hillstone on a Thursday night. This place used to be a Houstons and in NY and NJ the Houston's happy hour 6p-9p has a bar 4 people deep, music on, and there's an early evening vibe. I arrived at 6:45 and it wasn't crowded at all. I picked up a bit when the Heat game came on but still this is Thursday!! BIG Happy hour night. WHERE IS EVERYONE?? I'm beginning to think the only places who truly know how to do a happy hour and draw a crowd are Monty's on the beach and Smith Wollensky (but even that's hit or miss). Ok so on a Thursday not a hot happening happy hour spot at all. Need to try this place again on I guess what is their happy hour night. Ok so luckily the person I was hanging with was a true gent and very very nice and smart. Love me some good conversation. The mojitos were good. A bit too pulpy for my taste but a good amount of drink and not overkill on the ice. I had the Hamacha Roll (I think that was the name). It WAS EXCELLENT. Ask for more wasabi if that's your thing because they don't give much. Food was good. They need to add sweet potato fries to the menu. Brownie Dessert was eh ok a bit too nutty for me. Next time I do Tres Leches. Cool spot, not too wowed considering the distance from the beach. Better spots to go closer to home. Liked it but wasn't blown away.

Formerly Houston's now it's Hillside which is parent company. The wait in this place is usually long. So keep that in mind when coming to this location. The staff are all very friendly and helpful! The Spinach dip is to die for! I had the crab cakes and they were really good. They came with fries and coleslaw. Hubby had New York Steak which was really good. Very tender done just right. We also shared a tres leches with fruits which was great! Overall the food was just great!

I see Houston's as a step above Houlihan's. Almost like it's trying a little too hard to be "classy" without actually being innately classy. No matter what time you arrive, there will be a wait for a table - not because the restaurant is tiny, but just, well, because. I'm not really sure why. We arrived before 6pm on a Sunday, and we waited 20 minutes or so for a table for 2. The bar was also packed, but we found a tiny round table in the bar area to hang at. Almost immediately, a bartender appeared to ask us if we wanted drinks. I wondered if Houston's served Blue Moon, and was told they did not, but the bartender recommended "a very similar" beer called White Rascal. I figured, what the heck. Um, the only thing similar about it was its color, maybe. It wasn't citrusy at all. In fact, it boasted a peppery flavor! Hmm. Wow. Yeah. And although it was obvious we were waiting for a table in the dining room, the bartender insisted upon holding our credit card for a "tab" which we did not ask to hold open. Anyway, when it was time for us to be seated, the credit card was still MIA, and so a complicated transaction ensued during which the hostess took my husband's first and last name, asked us to be seated, and assured us that our credit card would be returned to us (and the tab "transferred to the table"). Seriously, was this necessary? Just give us the damn card! Bottom line, the food is solid here. Steaks, sandwiches, burgers, even sushi at this location. The service is a bit pretentious, I think. Don't pretend you're something way better than Houlihan's, because you're really not.

Hey, glad to report that the service has improved, close to what Houston's used to offer. Our waitress was bubbly, smiley all the time. My Wagyu steak was very good, and the crab cakes just unbeatable. Welcome back Hillstone!

I am a Fan. The best spinach deep ever is in this place. Prime Rib is always a good choice or the Baby Back Ribs are very easy to eat with fork and knife. Desserts are very good, brownie with ice cream is my favorite, but rarely order it because I end up to full for it. Share it with others. Weekend are always pack.

Just had a great business lunch at Hillstone. Hillstone is the former Houston's in Coral Gables. It's a great place to go and see nice looking, well dressed ppl which isn't terrible either. The service was great too! It's a little pricey for lunch but the selection is good and the food was very good. It was also nice to see Jason Taylor the former Miami Dolphin and his wife Katina sitting right next to us.

Really a great place to enjoy a nice dinner. The drinks were great, the appetizers as well (spinach dip and fries). My wife love the sashimi salad and I was not crazy about my entree (although the baked potato was really good). The key lime pie was the highlight, and the service was impeccable ( but I guess this is more a virtue of the waitress ). Although I read in some reviews about being on the expensive side , I think for the quality the price is reasonable). Glad we drove from miami to coral gables.

This place is absolutely fantastic. First of all, I got there and put my name on the list and the wait was about 20 minutes, which was not that bad considering how packed the place was. I went and sat far out of eye sight and grabbed a beer while I waited and amazingly they found me to tell me that my table was ready. Now, that may not seem like a lot but considering how many customers there were, and they did not give me any kind of buzzer thingy to let me know that my table was ready means that they remembered my face so they knew exactly who to get for what table. And this wasn't just a one time fluke, it's like that everytime I go here with various groups of people. Thats pretty impressive it you ask me. When they escorted us to our table they grabbed a little tray and asked if they could carry our drinks that we had purchased at the bar to our table for us. Mind you, it's only about 20 feet to the table we sat at but it was still a very nice thing for them to carry our drinks for us. Thats class A service! The waitress was very nice and promptly took our order. The food was brought out to us post haste. I was really surprised how fast it came out again considering how busy the place was. They seem to be working like a very well oiled machine. I had the French Dip sandwich....and I must say that I will never eat another French Dip from any other establishment ever again. Its THAT good! They used nothing but the best quality roast beef, the bread was the perfect blend of crispy and soft and the au jus was the perfect amount of salty to compliment the sandwich. It was sheer perfection! It was accompanied by a loaded back potato which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Houston's get an A+ in my book and I can't wait to go back again and again and again

It is so refreshing to find somewhere in Miami where you can: 1. Order in English and be understood first time 2.Place an order that is actually completed Ok the service is robotic and corporate in nature, with forced fake smiles all around but that's the price to pay. The food is very good and well priced. Sitting at the bar is actually more fun. Favorites include the burgers, Thai steak salad, and French DIp SAndwhich. P.S what's the deal with spinach dip priced at $16 or so dollars. I'm sure they will say its fresh, organic pulled from a babys ass to justify the price......its just spinach !!!

The wait is a bit long, but the food is absolutely delicious. My chicken salad was perfect and so was my bf's Hawaiian ribeye. The fries are also great. The last star is taken due to the noise. It's a bit loud at the bar and where ever you sit inside.

I come a lot to Houston's/Hillstone because of work, we take clients here and it never disappoints. Service is spotless, and they make a great effort in being perfect. I come on Thursdays, because that is when they serve the Tortila Soup, it is to die (or kill) for. I also love the Thai Steak Salad. I've never been a Salad for Lunch kind of guy, but this dish shattered my preconceptions. The only reason why I don't give it the fifth star, is because of the ridiculous waiting times, and they do not accept reservations, which aggravates the problem. But with that said, I am a fan. Just make sure you have the time.

I've heard of this place as a long-standing Gables favorite. Maybe it was all the hype that made me expect more. The menu was limited, but the food was pretty good, although a bit overpriced. I tried some sushi. It was fresh and the sushi rice was well made. I really enjoyed the asian flavored salad and my friend liked her fish filet of the day. The presentation was a little sloppy though. She didn't like her fish juices running into her side dishes. The service seemed to be very team oriented. Several servers who were not my original passed by and removed items from my table and checked how we were. I liked this aspect. However, their Princess Jasmine-like hairstyles were a little strange with all the multiple rubber bands all down their hair... (looked a little 80's for a classy place like this. Why not just a chic pony tail?) They did good on the wine reccommendations. Overall a good place, exceptional in service, not exceptional in menu variety or food, but the atmosphere was nice and I could see myself returning one day. So I give it an A-Ok :-)

Located on the corner of 201 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, this restaurant is now called Hillstone. But, for the life of me, I still call it Houston's. I've dinned here several times for their sushi, but never for a burger. Hillstone is a little pricey but, believe me, the food, great atmosphere, happy hour and beautiful interior make it worthwhile. You'll definitely get what you pay for. We started with their famous spinach and artichoke dip, which Hillstone is famous for. It's a sizable appetizer and, like always, its super good. Hillstone has six burgers on their menu and I chose the Hickory Burger. It comes with Canadian bacon, chopped cheddar cheese, onion, hickory sauce and, yes, I ordered extra jalapenos. The cheddar cheese and the Canadian bacon make an awesome combination. It made the burger a delight to eat. I'm puzzled how people don't talk more about their burgers. I'm looking forward to trying another one next time I come in. For dessert I could not skip on their Key Lime Pie. By far, it's one of the best I've eaten, and a must have if you're a Key Lime lover as I am. Hillstone doesn't get a five start from me for two reasons. First, the waiting list is way too long. If they say the wait is one hour believe me it is. Second, at times the service could be lacking. What I mean is they're not as friendly as some other places. Besides that, I love the place. You can be sure to find me there for happy hour or relaxing with friends on a Sunday afternoon for lunch.

Great burger! A little pricey, but worth it! The complimentary bread and butter is yummy. If you want drinks -- I highly recommend the lemon-drop martini. I always order the burger and side of baked potato. My boyfriend likes to get the salad, topped with steak and honey mustard dressing. Quality food and satisfying every time. We always leave happy.

The reason I keep going back to this place is because the food and service are consistently good. The center cut filet is superb. On my last visit I tried one of he sushi rolls and I was extremely surprised to see how good they were. If you want good food and great service, check this place out. You will not be disappointed!
